Measurable Objectives of Lesson (SWBAT): Students will be able to: Further strengthen skills of visual attention stamina, oral language and signing Further strengthen fine motor skills. Grouping Strategies: (must include at least 3) Whole Group, Pairs (with EA or Teacher), Individual work Modalities: (must include at least 2) Auditory, Visual, tactile/kinesthetic Materials: Story Book: Apple Surprise by Easy Theme Readers Materials: Visual Language Cards for Vocabulary 1 paper lunch bag (per student) Assorted crafting pom-poms googly eyes Red and Green craft paint Paint brush or sponge brush glue Twine, yarn, or ribbon Scrap paper
Key Vocabulary: Red, Green, Numericals (1-5), Worm, Apple, Glue, PomPom, Paint Hook: ( 5-7 Minutes) I will begin the lesson by bringing the students to the tables, and modeling the activity.
1. I will begin the lesson by reviewing vocabulary with visual language cards (made by student teacher) 2. I will have each student touch or communicate verbally or sign the visual language cards. I will then pass out supplies sequentially to reduce confusion.
Part 1: Before Individual Work or Recess (per mentor teacher), Students will paint with (or without) assistance their paper bags green & red. Bags will be stored to dry. Part 2: During Sensory activity time: Students will be given the cut out of the worm, asked to or assisted to place glue and then pom-poms on the worm-cut outs while counting aloud. While worm cut-outs dry, students will be given their dry painted bags and will be asked to stuff them with scrap paper and given assistance with tying them shut. Finally, Students will glue worm-cut out on the apple bag in a place of their choosing. Student Practice: (20 Minutes) 1. Practice with oral language, signing or visual attention. 2. Practice with color recognition through oral language, signing or visual attention. 3. Practice with strengthening fine motor skills through painting and placing of pom- poms individual or with hand-over-hand technique. 4. 1:1 to correspondence of counting and placing of pom-poms Assessment/Student Feedback: Assessment: o Assessment will be through observational assessment. o In the beginning of the lesson, during the "hook" students prior knowledge will be on the vocabulary using the visual language cards. o During the Student Practice phase, further observational assessment will be utilized and tailored to each students individual IEP goals. Feedback to Students: o Students will be prompted and provided with feedback throughout the lesson. Closure: If time permits, a reading of Apple Surprise by Easy Theme Readers.
