Invasion of social media
The argument I would like to propose is how social media have been negatively affecting
todays society. I am interested in this topic because I have witnessed how social media has
affected younger generations and older ones as well. I am also interested in this topic because all
though there are some positive aspects of social media, I believe the bad far outweighs the good
and society needs to be aware of this. Over the last couple of years the use of social media has
sky rocketed and the only positive affect I have seen from this is being able to connect with
friends in a more convenient way. However, I have seen and read about how social media has
caused negative affects like isolation and cyber bullying, and how it has affected ones
productivity and has been a huge distraction. Overall I believe social media has negatively
impacted todays society more than it has positively.
Over the years I have caught myself multiple times being distracted by social media while
doing a homework assignment or anything for that matter. Social media has caused my school
performance to drop dramatically. It has led to procrastination and sleep deprivation. Instead of
studying and doing my homework I always find myself using social media instead and because I
am using them instead of studying, I stay awake later which causes me to attend school without
the sufficient hours of sleep I need for a day. Not only has social media negatively affected my
school life but also my social life. When out with friends I often find myself using social media

rather than being in the moment and talking to them. Although these are just examples of how
social media has affected my life, I am sure other people can relate to it because I have seen my
friends using social media rather than talking with the people right in front of them. Although
these are just some ways social media has negatively impacted my life, one can see how it is
such a huge impact, and if social media is impacting an average person like me its bound to be
affecting others like me.
