Dump Valve Hydraulic Schematic

Oil flows from the main hydraulic pump to the flow amplifier. The priority flow divider in the
flow amplifier sends all flow required to steer the truck to the steering system with the excess
flow (EF) then going to the inlet P Port of the dump valve.
The Dump Valve has an unloading valve and load sensing (LS) main relief valve located in the
inlet section. The dump control valve section spool has a closed center design. Oil flowing to
the spool passes through a pressure compensator spool. A circuit relief valve is fitted at each
of the work ports, with the down pressure restricted to 725 psi, (50 Bar). The pressure
available to either work port is ported back to the assist the unloading spool spring in the inlet
section through a shuttle check valve. The shuttle check valve is required to send the highest
load sensing pressure to the unloading valve in the event that a second control spool is fitted.
A second spool would be fitted in a truck equipped with an ejector type body. The dump valve
relief valve limits the maximum pressure in the load sense circuit at the unloading spool and
hence acts as the main relief valve for the dump valve. Oil returning from the dump circuit
exits the control valve outlet section at the Tank (T) port.
The dump valve is located under the left rear corner of the cab. The dump spool is controlled
be an electrical joystick located in the right console inside the cab. The dump valve control
spool is also fitted with a manual activation lever that can be used to manually raise and lower
the body from ground level. Exercise extreme caution when raising or lowering the dump
body. The manual override lever can be very effective to isolate whether a dump circuit
problem is electrical or hydraulic. If the control valve responds to a manual control input, a
functional problem is then likely caused by the electrical control circuit. If the dump body will
not raise when the lever is manually activated, the problem is likely hydraulic.
A counterbalance valve is fitted in the lower circuit plumbing to restrict the oil returning from the
dump cylinders in the event that the truck is positioned that the dump body goes over center as
the body is raised. This can happen when the front of the truck is much higher than the rear or
when the material carried in the body places a heavy load at the extreme rear of the body as it
is raised. This over center condition would then cause a low pressure in the raise circuit hose
which would then activate the counterbalance valve. The counterbalance valve is located at
the manifold at the front of the rear chassis.
There is a pressure reducing valve located in the outlet section of the dump control valve that
supplies flow to the transmission and intermediate axle diff-lock circuit, through the PP Port,
on the 25 Ton Trucks and to the intermediate axle diff-lock and retarder control circuits on the
30 ton Trucks equipped with the ZF260 Transmission. There is also a pressure relief valve in
the outlet section to act as a safety relief valve in the event that the pressure reducing valve
malfunctions.
