Arrive to class on time and be ready to follow instructions
This shows respect and allows the other students to keep their attention on the teacher. It will also result in you receiving the directions/instructions needed to complete all assignments successfully.
No food or drink in class The only exception is a bottle of water. The water must have a cap and be previously unopened. And yes, food includes things such as candy, gum, etc. This will help keep distractions to a minimum.
Maintain an appropriate level of supplies and materials (list given at start of school year) This is a math class so we will go through a lot of pencils, erasers, and paper. Be sure to keep plenty on hand along with your TI-36X calculator. Being prepared for class will help you to accomplish your work in a timely manner, and it will help you develop good habits in other areas of your life as well.
Come to class ready to learn and remain seated and quiet unless directed by the teacher This requires that both your mind and body be well rested, energized, and focused. By remaining quiet and seated you are helping others stay focused also. This will increase everyones ability to remain calm and attentive and thus improve overall performance and grades
Maintain a positive attitude and be respectful of your fellow students and teacher(s) Doing well in school is about more than just completing assignments. Having a good attitude and treating others with respect will boost your confidence, results in less stress, improve the relationships you have with teachers and students alike, and result in better overall performance.
Homework is due at the beginning of class Late homework will only be accepted for 2 days (at start of class) after the initial turn-in date. A minus five (-5) point grade penalty will be assessed for each day it is late. Turning in homework is part of learning how to be responsible, accountable, and keep a job.
Keep an Open Mind This will help you process coursework and classroom environment from multiple points of view. Keeping an open mind is key to learning and improving critical thinking skills, especially in mathematics.
Believe in Yourself What you say, think, and believe about yourself will truly define who you become. If you believe you cant, you will be right. If you believe you can, you will be right. Make the choice to believe you CAN!
