The basic form of the verb

In English it is the form that you would
use after to.
Ex. to laugh, to complain, to be

In Spanish they are also the basic form of
the verb.
They end in -AR
Ex: cantar, bailar, comer, beber
Note: all words that end in these letters are
not verbs.
To be, or not to be?
Lets start out with
one of the most
important verbs in
Spanish: ser, which
means to be.
To be, or not to be
Look at the English
forms of this verb: I
am, you are, he is,
she is, we are, they
This verb doesnt
follow an expected
pattern; in other
words, its irregular.
Ser, o no ser
The Spanish verb ser is also
ser = to be
yo soy = I am
t eres = you are
l es = he is
ella es = she is
usted es = you are
nosotros somos = we are
ellos son = they are
ustedes son = you (all) are
Unlike English, Spanish
sentences do not
always require a
