QO osrrvanies Edwin W. Schmitz Sr., 73, Korean War Veteran Edwin W. Schmitz Sr., 73 of Lorain, died Wednesday January 15, 2003 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a short illness. He was born June 28, 1929 in Lorain and had resided in Lorain since 1953 moving from Elyria. He was a 1948 graduate of Elyria High School. Mr. Schmitz served with the US Army during the Korean 4 War as a sergeant in the 765th TRSB in Pusan with the i rank of sergeant. He was awarded the Korean Service Edwin W. Schmitz Sr. Medal with three bronze stars. i Mr, Schmitz worked at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant as a toolmaker for 18 years retiring in 1992. Prior to that he worked at Fruehauf Trailer for 20 years. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as an usher during mass and was a member of the church men's club and Paduan Travelers. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7576 in Vermilion, a member of United Auto Workers Retirees Local #2000 and the Computer Users Group at the St. Joseph Community Center in Lorain. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, photography, traveling, and computers. He and his wife would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Valentine's Day. . cree He is survived by his wife of 49 years Patricia (nee Bark); sons: Jeffrey R. Schmitz of Avon Lake & Marblehead, Dale E, Schmitz of Tampa, FL., Mark H. Schmitz of Des Plaines, Illinois, Brian P. Schmitz of Lorain, and Edwin W. Schmitz Jr. of Vermilion; grandsons: Michael & Daniel Schmitz; sisters: Barbara Halliwell of Birmingham, Ohio and Lois Remy of North Ridgeville. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry & Florence (nee Yorks) Schmitz and brother Kenneth Schmitz in 1992. The family will receive friends Friday 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo- Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 am in the funeral chapel followed by a mass at 11:30 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain: The Rev.
