Impact of Immigration on Great Britain

For the past two decades the UK has experienced a steady flow of net migrants in to the
economy. This is a significant factor in the growth of the UK population. There is now an
increase in labor forces. Most likely they have come to Great Britain to work, or get schooling.
This may bring dependents, but generally net immigration leads to an increase in the labor
force and increases the potential output of the economy. This also means that immigrants
increase the total spending within the economy. But the real impact on their GDP per capita is
uncertain. It could create a more flexible labor market too.
Immigrants make a positive impact on the dependency ratio. With an ageing population
the UK has a forecast to see an increase in the dependency ratio. However the people coming
here tend to be students or of the working age, they will pay income tax but will not be claiming
benefits. They also have an impact on particular sectors, the short term effect is quite
important. Others also claim there tends to be overcrowding issues.
