1. Literacy: Read your leveled reading book aloud to your parents for 15-20 minutes per night. Remember to fill out your reading log. Turn in your reading log on Friday with at least 5 entries. 2. Literacy: Each time you read this week, practice a different style of reading with your parents. Monday Choral Reading (reading the book aloud together at the same time) Tuesday- Partner Reading (taking turns reading aloud, while the other person follows along) Wednesday Independent Silent Reading (reading quietly alone) Thursday Lead Reading (the higher reader reads aloud and puts their finger on the text, while the lower reading whispers the text along as best they can) Weekend Read Aloud (read a book aloud to your parents while they listen and ask you book talk questions) 3. Mad Math Minutes: Ask your mom or dad to copy the addition worksheets which your teacher gave you before in class. Practice a different Mad Minutesheet about 3-4 nights per week. Be prepared for a 1 minute quiz towards the end of every week for the next couple months. 4. Ideas Complete the Character Chart sheet on the back of this homework sheet. Read the instructions carefully and write in complete, detailed sentences. Use a leveled reading book, library book or book from your home. 5. Parent Interview Using your blue Homework Notebook, interview your parents and ask them the following questions: What is a house? What is a home? What is the difference between a house and a home? Please make sure you write the questions and answers, not your parents.
Optional Bonus Homework: (for stickers and/or prizes) Mathletics: Play Mathletics Live for 15-20 minutes each night and practice your addition facts; Explore the activities on Rainforest Math; and try some of the activities on Mathletics Problem Solver. Literacy: In class you have been doing activities adding post-its into books that you have read in class. On the post-its you have written one of the following symbols = !, ?, x, /, or T-S, T-T, T-W or T-M. Then, on the post-it you wrote a question, exclamation, disagreement, agreement, text to self connection, text to text connection, text to world connection or text to media connection that you thought of while reading the book. Read a book from the library, your home, class, etc. and add in 10 or more post-its with the symbols and sentences that we have been learning in class. Math: If A = 1; B = 2; C = 3; D = 4; E = 5 and so on Write the total value of 5-10 words from any book that you are reading at home. Please show your addition work in your HOMEWORK NOTEBOOK.
