The Hermione Granger
Dont get me wrong; I
love Hermione.
However, we cannot
deny the fact that she
would be that girl (or
guy) in your class. This
person defies every
students nature- they
want homework. And
exams. The one who
somehow knows every
single answer and
actively tries to answer
them. Just in case

youre not sure what I
mean, heres an
example. In the fourth
Harry Potter book,
Harry Potter and the
Goblet of Fire,
Hermione is deeply
disappointed that
Professor Dumbledore
cancelled all exams.
Students who are like
this desperately need
to sort out their
priorities.
The Late One
This persons ability to
be late to class every
day is equally
disturbing and
impressive. At a certain
point in the term, you
will consider reminding
them of the actual start
time of the class
because you're
convinced that they
These are the five
people you will
inevitably encounter in
all of your university
classes. They are the
stock characters that
will be around no
matter how hard you
try to get rid of them.
And believe me, I know
how much you would
love to get rid of them.

The Random Wise
Old Person
This person is an adult.
At least, they would like
to place you under
the, probably false,
pretence that they are
an adult. They have
returned to university to
complete their degree.
Basically, they are
choosing to leave the
freedom of the real
world in favour for an
institution that will
bankrupt them. They
will take it upon
themselves to
constantly remind you
that they are older
than you (even though

Befriend this innovative
genius. You know who
Im talking about. That
is all.

Sleeping Beauty
Just to be clear, this
person looks far from
beautiful whilst
sleeping. Apparently,
this person attends
class with the sole
purpose to rest their
eyes. Let us consider
the financial
repercussions for this
habit. On average,
just dont know when
this class is supposed to
start. You decide
against by telling
yourself that they might
have something
incredibly important to
do right before this
classevery classall
semester. In reality, this
persons main issue is
they dont have a very
good grasp of the
concept of linear time
and convince
themselves they can
watch one-hour
episodes in 20 minutes
(dont deny it, you've
tried this).

The Mark Zuckerberg
One
tuition is
approximately $7000
a year. Most of us
take 10 courses a
year, which means
each course costs
about $700. Each
course has 10 weeks
of classes, which
means each class
costs about $35
dollars. (And no,
although my
calculations are
compelling, Im not a
math major.) If you
think about it, its the
most expensive way
to take a nap. So stay
awake, at all costs.
Because falling
asleep will probably
cost more.

QUESTION OF THE MONTH
If youve got me, you have power BUT too much of me increases pride and ego if not used
carefully. I can be your ticket to Heaven if you use me well, BUT if you abuse me, I am
dangerous enough to send you to Hell. What am I?
Answer will be revealed in next months issue inshaAllah!
Send your answer to uomsatimes@gmail.com with the subject "Question of the Month", your name, and
phone number. A prize will be awarded to a winner every month! Last months winners were Ahmedou
Jreivine, Rizwan Awan and Jamila Bah, mashallah! Each won a $25 gift card to Tim Hortons!
Last Months Answer

To divide these camels between these brothers, I will voluntarily give them an additional camel, and the
total number of the camels becomes 18. Therefore, every one of them will get more than what he has
been expecting, but I will impose a simple condition that Im who will divide the camels between them,
and I do that as follows: I ask the oldest to take a half of the camels (i.e. 9 camels) excluding the camel
that I gave them. I ask the second to take a third of the camels (i.e. 6 camels) excluding the camel that I
gave them. I ask the oldest to take a ninth of the camels (i.e. 2 camels) excluding the camel that I gave
them. Now, I have distributed 9+6+2= 17 camels only, and every one has taken more that what he
expected. Therefore, I can retrieve my camel.

Mashallah, there are a
large amount of Muslim
students on the University
of Ottawa campus. We
are such a solid body of
people, yet we not only
represent the MSA,
students, teachers, or
even Muslims; we
represent good people.

Alhamdulillah it is obvious
to see that the Muslim
students at uOttawa
participate in many ways
on campus, but there are
a couple gentle friendly
reminders I would like to
mentions.
As Muslims, we
understand the concept
of daawa. Daawa is not
simply telling people
what Islam is. Daawa is
not simply explaining
parts of Islam and how
our religion, Quran and
faith functions. Daawa is
showing people what
Islam is. Its showing
people how our religion,
Quran and faith work.

To be able to do this is
something remarkable.
To be able to spark a
conversation about Islam
with someone who does
not share your faith
On Campus Daawa
By Lynn Chalati
without bringing up the
conversation yourself is a rare
and beautiful thing. Think
about it. Whens the last time
someone you know who
doesnt share your faith asked
you a question, or made a
positive comment about your
religion (and by your religion I
do not mean Islam. I mean the
Islam that you, yourself, are
representing).

Lets focus on trying not to
force topics like religion and
faith on others. Lets make the
conversation strike up on its
own. How? Heres how:

Think about what makes a
person, a good Muslim:
charity, kindness, cleanliness,
respectfulness, faithfulness,
trustworthiness, etc. All of
these factors contribute to
how you are the best version
of yourself, as we all the best
Muslim you can be.

Try, at least once a day, to be
all of those things towards
someone you do not know.
Try, as much as you can, to
be all those things all the time.
That way, when you deal with
professors, TAs, students,
friends, teammates, colleges
and even strangers, you are
seen not only as a good
person, but as a good Muslim.

Though we live in a
multicultural society, we are
seen as Muslims before
anything else that we may be
and therefore, being able to
be seen positively and in
good light only makes sense.

Speak softly, dont swear, be
kind, and smile. In the end,
you may not spark a
conversation about Islam with
someone, but you may simply
be seen as a positive, kind
person, with a great attitude,
and for that, you can thank
your Islam.
we represent
good people.
Daawa is showing
people what Islam
is.
