Introduction to Christian

Education
EDUC310
Review of Week 4: (Mr. Nathan McFarlands Class)
1. A worldview is a set of basic assumptions that help you
and I make sense of reality, or a particular discipline.
2. Most teachers make two crucial errors:
a. They teach the way they enjoyed learning.
b. They assess the way that they enjoyed being
assessed.
3. Theory of Multiple Intelligences: Students learn
differently - and they may not learn like you!
Objective:
By the end of this class, I will be able to
delineate 3 basic roles of education in the
church.
...knowing that there is so much more to the
story!
Objective:
By the end of this class, I will be able to explain
various ways to ask questions in order to elicit
high quality responses from my students.
...and Ill be reminded that Ill need to seek God
for wisdom from above in every teaching
environment!

Deut. 4:9-10 KJV
Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently,
lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen,
and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life:
but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons;
[Specially] the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy
God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me
the people together, and I will make them hear my words,
that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall
live upon the earth, and [that] they may teach their
children.

1Peter 2:1-5 KJV
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and
hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word,
that ye may grow thereby:
If so be ye have tasted that the Lord [is] gracious.
To whom coming, [as unto] a living stone, disallowed
indeed of men, but chosen of God, [and] precious,
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house,
an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices,
acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Jesus transitioned from the general to the personal approach:
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the
Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon
Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but
my Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 16:15-17 KJV
Questions Are Not Created Equal
While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
saying,
"What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?"
They said to Him, "[The Son] of David."
He said to them, "How then does David in the Spirit call Him
'Lord,' saying: 'The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool" ' ? "If David then calls
Him 'Lord,' how is He his Son?"
And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day on
did anyone dare question Him anymore.

Question Modalities:
Whenever we assess learning, lets consider:
1. How we frame questions
2. Why we are asking the question
3. A scale of values for our questions
a. Some are worth little and should be counted so
b. Some are worth much and should be valued so
4. Who we are posing the question to
a. Is it age-appropriate?
b. Has the student encountered this material?
c. Will they need to know this material later?
5. If / how we will score the questions response
6. Will the answer provide evidence of learning?
