Solution to Avoid MTA Budget Crisis
MTA Plan
 Student Fare: restore ½ fare in
9/10; and full fare in 9/11. $31
million in 2010, $62 million in 2011
and $170 million in 2012
and outyears.
 Paratransit: eliminate door-to-
door service. $40 million in 2010,
$80 million in 2011.
 Discontinue W and Z subway
routes; terminate G subway route
at Court Street.
 Eliminate Rockaway-resident Cross
Bay toll rebate program.
 Increase subway headways on
weekends and early mornings;
increase off-peak subway load
guidelines.
 Adjust express bus service to reflect
demand and eliminate low performing
weekend express bus service.
 Discontinue and restructure local bus
service on low-performing routes.

Proposal
 Re-allocate 10% of direct
stimulus aid to MTA
operating expenses:
$91.5 million.
 Use budgeted PAYGO
capital funds for
operating: $50 million.
 Reallocate 10% of
additional stimulus transit
aid to State to operating:
$30 million.
 Do not implement any
actions without a full set
of public hearings on the
proposals. MTA Board must
hold hearings and vote on
proposed actions before
implementation.
