Racism And Its Relevancy

Hmmm Some Post-Racial Era

Racism today
September 17, 2014
I.Introduction
A. Today, the white and colored drinking fountains have
gone, the protests have calmed, and the fists have lowered.
Build up to your case or the main reason for your speech
1. Our culture emphasizes the image of equality when
it lacks in substance, and there now remains a broken
bond between those who suffer racism and those
who assume its extinction.
2. Almost 1 in 10 of black men are in prison, while black
women are 7 times more likely to be in prison then white
women.
3. African Americans are 5 times more likely to be pulled
over by the police for no reason, except that they are
black.
B. Despite the rise of Barack Obama, many African-
Americans still feel like second-class citizens.
a) Barack Obamas election as US president in 2008
points to how far things have changed in the last
100 years.
(1) Yet the cries of Kill Him! and Terrorist! yelled
when Obamas name was mentioned at some
Republican presidential rallies demonstrate that there
is still some way to go.
.
II.J ust as J im Crow once directly targeted African Americans,
mass incarceration continues to fall disproportionately on
communities of color.
III.Second Main Point: I've also noticed through the
generations, nothing much is changing! If we want to
have more respect in our race, we should try to
encourage these youths, kids, teenagers, and young
people to go to school, and learn. No matter what, do
what you can to obtain an education. Here in the US, it's
free! We have so many resources; Libraries, books,
instructors, peers, etc.
IV.Main Point 3: In These United States, black people in
particular, and all other "nonwhite" races, and certain
religions, and women, have far too much been treated
as second class from the very beginning. It remains
sometimes a sad, ugly fact of American life, but we're
working on it
A. Our problem is a human one: progress is painfully slow,
but like the tortoise, we get there.
V.Conclusion
A. Restate your three main points
1. Racism is not the same as it was in the Civil Rights Era
but prejudice and ignorance is still relevant.
2. Nothing much has changed!
3. Any race with just a touch of color is regarded as a
second class citizen.
B. We are not helping ourselves by constantly talking
about the injustice and our history of oppression
C. You can't fix a problem without talking about it. We as
the social media savvy generation that we are have the
power to make a difference.
