2a. How is immigration a problem for the EU?
Immigration has been a bigger problem over the years than it has been in the US. Immigration is
the cause of high unemployment rate in most of European countries. Tighter border control has been
implemented but the amount of immigrants in these nations is a problem. Germany has spent a lot of
money over the years on equipping the Polish border police to stop the flow of immigrants into
Germany. This is the most effective way to stop immigration
Some say immigration leads to an increased risk of terrorist attacks. After the terrorist attacks to
the World Trade Center, it changed the way people viewed this. Reports indicated that twelve of the
nine-teen terrorists whole hijacked the planes entered the US legally. This means that twelve of the
nine-teen people lived in the US prior to causing 9/11. This is unusual because it is the only time that a
terrorist lead a terrorist attack on his own nation. But, even though this coincidence happened once, it
does not take out the fear of terrorist attacks from immigrants.
2b. How are they dealing with this problem?
European nations are thinking of new ways to try and stop the flow of immigration. Immigration
in European nations has been hurting their standard of living. Nations such as Germany are starting to
take action and are tightening their border control. Tighter border control assures immigrants can no
longer enter the nation without the nation aware. Tighter border control as of right now seems to be
the resolution. This is most likely the most effective way to stop immigration.
Britain, Germany, and France have set up Asylum Centres for immigrants. Asylum Centres are
where immigrants sign up where claims will be processed. Stopping immigration fully is not the main
goal of these nations, but to regulate it. Low immigration does not hurt a country much. But when
immigration is beginning to hurt your standard of living and cause high unemployment, it calls for
tighter border control.
