COMPUTER RICH MALWARE ALERT OF THE
MONTH:
(All About The Bad Guys)
SOCIAL ENGINEERING...

COMPUTER RI CH is often asked, "How did my computer get infected
with malware?" Unfortunately, the answer is often, "Because you gave it
permission to come in."

That is why COMPUTER RI CH is talking about SOCIAL
ENGINEERING this month instead of a particular piece of malware.
"Social engineering" is the art of manipulating people so they will
perform certain acts or give up confidential information freely. In other
words, you got tricked, YO!

Take this scenario... You are headed into work and as you walk through
the parking lot, you spot a USB flash drive lying on the ground that
someone MUST have dropped "accidently", or did they? What do you
think most people would do when they got to their desk? The answer is
invariably; plug it into their computer to see what's on it. Yep, we're
nosy like that!

WHAM! You just got infected! This is a prime example of "Social
Engineering" and one of the reasons why some businesses forbid
"unauthorized" flash drives or disable the USB ports on your PC.

There are many types of "Social Engineering", an e-mail from a "trusted
friend", an e-mail from your "bank" asking to verify your log-in
credentials or that "Java" update that pops up on your desktop. They all
have one thing in common... YOU!

You are the "Social" in "Social Engineering". "Social Engineering" is
not possible without your involvement. These tactics simply cannot work
without YOU.

So, what can you do to prevent yourself from becoming a victim of
"Social Engineering"? Become informed, Grasshopper!

Pay attention to what you are doing and take nothing for granted. Don't
be a victim.

The following article from "WEBROOT" will enlighten you and give you
some ideas on what to look for...

What is Social
Engineering?
Social engineering is the art of manipulating people so they give up confidential information. The
types of information these criminals are seeking can vary, but when individuals are targeted the
criminals are usually trying to trick you into giving them your passwords or bank information, or
access your computer to secretly install malicious softwarethat will give them access to your
passwords and bank information as well as giving them control over your computer...

wanted with your mouse? (See Fig 1)

Fig 1

Have you ever wondered if there was a different, simpler way? OK!
So probably not; BUT, would you like to know if there is a different
way NOW?

Well, congratulations! You're in luck! COMPUTER RICH is going to
show you a couple of ways to accomplish this. Now pay
attention because this is very easy...

Easy way #1...

If you have Windows 7 or you have Windows 8 and you have gotten
your "Start Menu" button from COMPUTER RICH, then click on the
"Start" button. Now click on the "Control Panel" and navigate to and
click on "Folder Options". Then click on the "View" tab.

Now, you may have to scroll down to and click on "Use check boxes
to select items". Now click on the "Apply" button then click "OK"
(See Fig 2)

Easy Way #2...

If you now have Windows 8 and haven't gotten your "Start Menu" button
from COMPUTER RI CH yet, look for the "This PC" icon. It should be on
your desktop but if not, place your cursor at the upper right corner side of
the screen and you will get a "Pop Out". Click on the "Magnifying Glass"
labeled "Search". (See Fig 3)

Fig 3

A "Search Box" will pop up similar to (Fig 4) Yours may be a different color.

Fig 4

Type "This PC" without the quotation marks in the Search window. The
search results will appear directly below the search window. Click on "This
PC" result and a dialog box will pop up. Click on the "View" tab, and then
click on the little box, placing a check on "Item Check Boxes". (See Fig 5)

Fig 5

Now you can simply mouse "Click" on the files or folders you want to select
and a little "Check Mark" will appear in the box in the upper left-hand
corner of the file or folder. (See Fig 6)

Fig 5

There are certainly many other ways to "Select" folders and files and we

may explore those at the future date.

In the mean-time, you can now show your friends just how "Tech Savvy"
you are.

It'll be our little secret!

COMPUTER RICH PHONE APP OF THE
MONTH:
(Android Smartphone Fun)

Credit Karma Mobile

In keeping with the Credit Karma Theme,
the Credit Karma Mobile App is available on the Google Play Store.
Using information found on YOUR TransUnion Credit Report, the
Credit Karma Mobile App is jam packed with similar Graphs, Gauges
and Analysis as the Credit Karma website, only condensed for "On The
Go" Credit Monitoring.

KNOW what your Credit Score is BEFORE you apply for that store
merchant credit card. Run the Credit Karma Simulator so you will know
in advance how adding that credit card is going to affect your Credit
Score.

Once again the Credit Karma Mobile App is totally FREE, unlike other
"Credit Monitoring" apps. There is no "One Time" fee, monthly
reoccurring fee or "Free Trial" period.

COMPUTER RI CH hates "Free Trial" anything. They usually continue
to Bug You about "UPGRADING" to the "Pro" version or they keep a
low profile, hoping you will Forget To Cancel, so they can tag your credit
card or mobile phone service with a reoccurring charge.

That is just a personal opinion and possibly a good subject for a
future COMPUTER RI CH RANT . You may find "Free Trials" perfectly
ok and if that works for you, that's great.

The point is, the Credit Karma Mobile App may possibly be the BEST, if
not the ONLY, totally FREE Mobile Credit Monitoring App that
reports YOUR TransUnion Credit Score.

COMPUTER RI CH Can Testify, that if USED WISELY, you can HELP

Increase YOUR Credit Score by 100 points or "MORE" with Credit
Karma.

COMPUTER RICH BUSINESS ASSOCIATE OF
THE MONTH:
(Small Business Owners We Recommend)

"BREVARD HEALTH EXCHANGE LLC"

COMPUTER RI CH first met Pat Shankle, Managing Agent for Brevard
Health Exchange LLC, at a Melbourne Regional Chamber event and
we learned a little bit about each other's business'. COMPUTER RI CH wants
to thank Pat Shankle for using our service, it is very much appreciated!

Now, COMPUTER RI CH normally views most insurance as legalized theft;
however, Pat Shankle provides a much needed service that takes the mystery
out of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and offers guidance in selecting a
plan that best fits your family and your budget.

Best of all there is "no cost to you" for her service. So what are you
waiting for? What are you afraid of? You have nothing to lose. You can no
longer be denied health insurance for preexisting conditions!

Don't forget, open enrollment begins November 15, 2014; so get your
AFLAC ducks in a row and prepare to be insured...

Brevard Health Exchange LLC is a Florida licensed agency providing health insurance options in
the Health Insurance Marketplace. Our vision is to empower people with the knowledge of the
affordable care act (ACA).

Our mission is for everyone to have access to affordable health insurance. It is only then the
Law of Large Numbers can prevail and reduce the cost of health insurance for us all...

*NEW* COMPUTER RICH RANTS:
(Rants, Ravings and Lunacy)

Although this space is not designed for political expression, the following is
not an endorsement of one party over the other but is a critique of the apathetic
non-voter and will be of STRONG opinion. As a veteran, I am offended and I
have a rant that should be of great interest to EVERY AMERICAN VOTER.

Everybody pisses and moans about our legislature and congress and their lack of
performance. "Fire them all..." and "Vote the bums out..." are cries I often hear
or read about in the paper.

So, now a primary comes along and we are given an opportunity to choose who
we want to represent us in the up-coming November election. You would think
that after all the complaints and all the moaning and all the groaning, that
concerned citizens would show up at the polls in droves to vote. Right? You
would think!?...Right??

Florida recorded the WORST voter turnout in the last 16 years, in the
August primary.

Only 17.52 percent of Florida's 11.8 million registered voters even bothered to
show up at the polls. Only 17.52 percent?? 17.52 PERCENT!!??? Are you
kidding me?

It was the LOWEST Florida voter turn out since the 16.6 percent recorded in the
1998 primary election. This is wholly UNACCEPTIBLE; this is SHAMEFUL,
beyond reason.

There is NO excuse for this degree of apathy, ESPECIALLY when congress'
approval rates are nearly the lowest in history. So, if you are happy with your
current representation and you want more of the status quo, then by all
means; stay home and do nothing. Things WILL change, one way or the other; I
guess it just all depends on whether you agree with those changes or not. Shame
on YOU for not voting!

We all wave our little Chinese made American flags and we CLAIM to all be
"Patriots" and claim to be the "example to follow" on the long, bumpy road
to "DEMOCRACY"; and we can't even get out more vote's than they do
in Iraq? Give me a break! What a disgrace!!

You show distain for religions that don't take our brand of freedom seriously.
Why should they? You don't! You don't even care enough to vote!

Seriously, voting is a responsibility and not just a privilege! It is your
responsibility; NO! It's YOUR DUTY as an American, to go to the polls; lest
you keep your unpatriotic, vocal displeasure to yourself. If you DON'T vote, you
have ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to complain about the outcome!!

Do you believe that YOU deserve your freedom? Just because you were born
here? Do YOU believe that you have the RIGHT to fly the American flag? You
SAY you HONOR those who have given their limbs for your freedom? But do
YOU?

... And what of the others?
...You know...
Those who have given their ALL?

So YOU could be free??

AND YOU DON'T EVEN VOTE?!?!

SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP!!

So now the question begs... Are YOU going to get off your
apathetic, lazy American ass and vote in November?? Or are you going to let a
select few, LIKE ME, decide who you get to complain about for the next 2
years?

Trust me! You DO NOT want ME to select your lawmakers for you; because if
you did, then you would all have health insurance and your minimum wage
would be $10.10 AN HOUR. I'm just sayin'...

GO VOTE!!
