Hypercane
The movie I choose to watch is 500 MPH Storm. This movie is awful and I really
dont recommend that anyone watch it, ever. The movie theorized that the government
could harness the Earths energy and create clean energy. It didnt work, it backfired, and
the devise tore a hole in the atmosphere all the way to the stratosphere. This caused oceans
to heat rapidly, hurricanes, and tornadoes. The weather phenomenon that I choose to write
on from this movie is the Hypercane. A hypercane is basically a really big hurricane, 500
mph winds, water temp of 120 F minimum, the size of a continent, lasts for weeks,
basically one of these would cause the end of the world. The hypercane itself wouldnt but
the global freeze along with the solar radiation would. In the movie, the hypercane never
came about. They were able to stop it just in time. But the theory they had in the movie was
that the hypercane wouldnt just form all on its own. It would form a great number of
smaller hurricanes; these hurricanes would eventually merge together to form one massive
hurricane, then a hypercane. As far as the realistic portrayal, it didnt have one at all, I
swear there were 30 minutes of the movie were they were literally being followed by a
tornado. He would turn right the tornado would turn right, that kind of follow.

Now when this is compared to a legitimate hypothesis for a hypercane, it I differs
but not that much. The movie was heading in the right direction as far as what the damage
done would be. Dr. Kerry Emanuel an MIT scientist came up with the theory of a hypercane
in 1994. He stated that for a hypercane to occur, the ocean temperature would have to hit
around 50 C. This sounds very simple and terrifying when put in such a simple way. When
in all reality the highest ocean temperature ever recorded is in waters by Abu Dabi they
ranged from 30-35 C. So when you think about it, the hypercane really isnt that scary or in
my opinion very likely to be possible, at least not in any of our lifetimes. Some differences
that were not explained in the movie are the comet impacts or volcanic eruptions.

Another theory is one written by, John Woodmorappe. His theory states that a
hypercane could and will happen in areas were submarine volcanoes are found. That
someday, massive submarine volcanoes will erupt causing the ocean water around it to
heat up at an alarming rate. This combined with a hot summer sun could be a recipe for
disaster. His theory includes the same kinds of disaster, with one exception. He believes
that a hypercane would cause rainfall on a global scale and for 40 days straight this in turn
would flood the entire world (similar to the story of Noahs Ark). The reason being, he
believes that a hypercane would deliver lots of moisture far into the stratosphere and it
would be carried throughout the world
