VOLUNTEER
Fall 2014

Fall 2014

Spring 2013
I work with at-risk-youth in the 4-H after school program. We help them complete their
homework, play activities with them, and most of all, we are a positive role model in their
life-a trusted adult that they can talk to.

I volunteer in Mrs. Brunson first grade class, working with an English language learner.
Turki, her ESL student, is from Saudi Arabia and knows very little English. I spend one hour
a week one on one with him. We go over letter recognition, phonemes, capital and lower
case letters, and we practice writing the letters of the alphabet.

I volunteered in Mr. Jenkins fourth grade class. I worked with a student named Talal who
had just moved to America at the beginning of the year, although he was a very smart
student, he was on like a first grade reading level. I spent time with him one on one going
over letters, sounds, and word blends.

FIELD EXPERIENCE
Fall 2013 Teacher , International Language Program
Completed EDGE Project through the Southern Utah University Global Engagement
Center. For my project, I traveled to China and spend fourth months teaching English to
kindergarten students. I got to see firsthand what it is like to work with English Language
Learners.
Spring 2014 Nanny , Aupair.com
I found a family on www.aupair.com that lived in Spain and wanted a nanny to live with
them to help improve their English. I flew over there in February and lived with them for
three months. Every day I spent time with their four kids-playing card games, writing
notes, going to the park, and just talking with them to keep up their English they were
learning in school.
