Five Facts Assignment
CCSS Standards:
CCSS.ELA.W.6.8 - Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and
present the relationships between information and ideas efficiently as well as to interact and
collaborate with others.
CCSS.ELA.W.7.6 - Conduct short research projects to answer a question, drawing on several
sources and refocusing the inquiry when appropriate.
CCSS.ELA.W.7.8 - Conduct short research projects to answer a question (including a self-
generated question), drawing on several sources and generating additional related, focused
questions that allow for multiple avenues of exploration.
CCSS.ELA.W.10.6-8 - Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection,
and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of discipline-
specific tasks, purposes, and audiences.

Objectives: Students will be able to
1.) Conduct effective research using a web browser, a search engine, and the internet.
2.) Demonstrate a basic ability to properly use Microsoft Word.
3.) Demonstrate a basic ability to properly use a Flash Drive.
4.) Demonstrate the proper heading for assignments to be submitted in this class.
5.) *Demonstrate a basic ability to properly use Edmodo to share a MS Word document
with a class community. (To be completed later, once we open up Edmodo accounts.)

Directions:
1.) With a partner, use the internet through Internet Explorer and a Google search to
conduct research on one University or College.
2.) Find five important facts about a University or College that you choose.
3.) Be sure to use the home (.edu) website of that school as your primary resource.
4.) You may also choose up to 2 other websites for your research, but make sure that those
websites provide Facts and that those Facts are also Important.
5.) One student specifically details the 5 important facts by writing them on paper.
6.) The other student types the 5 important facts into a MS Word document.
7.) Be sure to place the proper heading in the upper right hand corner (justified right) to
your both your handwritten and MS Word typewritten documents:

Grade Level & Letter / Student Computer seat # (e.g. 7C / L2-3)
Firstname Lastname of Partner #2
Grade Level & Letter / Student Computer seat # (e.g. 7C / L2-4)

8.) Turn in the handwritten document to Mr. King.
9.) Save the MS Word document onto both flash drives of your partner and yourself.
10.) You will be submitting the MS Word document assignment to Mr. King once we create
Edmodo accounts. So, for now simply leave it on your Flash drives.

*Students whom are in Ms. Ontiveros class will be completing this assignment on Loyola
Marymount University (LMU) and Cal State Fullerton (CSUF) and submitting it to Mr. King. Mr.
King will turn in the assignment to Ms. Ontiveros.
