CORE PROGRAM COMPONENTS

COGNITIVE SELF-CHANGE curriculum is based on principles of rational therapy for
creating a process of cognitive restructuring. Concepts are presented sequentially and clients
demonstrate competencies in basic cognitive restructuring. The client quickly learns that
cognitive restructuring requires an objective, systematic approach to identifying thoughts,
feelings, and behaviors. Cognitive Self-Change is comprised of two stages. Each stage has the
capacity to be adapted to each individuals and each groups needs. There is a continuous
process of assessing the comprehension deficits and mastery for each client. In this way, group
members are invested and empowered to participate in their own learning and self-improvement,
providing a forum for continued skill and cognitive development. Client progress is reviewed in
weekly staff meetings and through drug tests. Client is discharged from the group once all
required work is completed and client demonstrates pro-social behaviors.
Cognitive Self Change (CSC) Idaho Model Orientation includes the following 5 components:
Offense chain or cognitive-behavioral chain

MORAL RECONATION THERAPY is a systematic treatment strategy designed to enhance
ego, social, moral, and positive behavioral growth in a progressive, step-by-step fashion. This
program is designed to address clients who are traditionally very resistant to treatment. It is
easily adapted to the resources of treatment providers, various settings, and the needs of the
client. This program utilizes workbooks, designed to be conducted in open-ended, ongoing
groups where participants present a series of homework assignments during which they pass
steps and hold each other accountable to pro-social value system. The program takes
approximately 24 weeks (6 months) to complete. Client progress is reviewed in weekly staff
meetings and through drug tests. Client is discharged from the group once all required work is
completed (all steps) and client demonstrates pro-social behaviors.
The system uses a series of structured exercises and tasks to foster development of higher levels
of reasoning and addresses other important treatment areas, such as:

component which encourages individuals to internalize new knowledge; Careful evaluation is
made of the precise information needed for life change, thus reducing the risk of overload;
Participants are given a consistent message that change is possible; Journals assist in creating a
collaborative approach between the facilitator/counselor and the participant based on shared
goals and strategies for making changes; A consistent message is given that individuals are
personally responsible for their thinking and behaviors; Much information is offered in a first
person story format to build interest and to establish an emotive level of understanding;
individuals tap into their life experiences to establish a personalize foundation for change; and
they focus of key points for behaviors change. Emphasis is placed on Substance Use Education,
