Efective today, we are beginning our yearlong reading
incentive program. As part of this program, your child will be signing out boos from our classroom library each day, !onday through "riday. # have given the children plastic bags to eep the boos in good condition. Please remind your child to bring the boo and the bag bac to school everyday. $he / he may e%change it for another boo or choose to tae the same boo home again. &owever, '&E ())* A+D '&E (AG !,$' -)!E (A-* ') $-&)). E/E01DA1. 1ou may 2nd that you will need to read the boos to your child as # tend to send some of the more challenging boos home. . # try to eep as many 3good42t5 boos as possible here in the classroom so the children have them to read during the day. Adults or older siblings can involve the children as active listeners by periodically asing them 6uestions about the story7 what they thin the story will be about, predicting what might happen ne%t, what their favorite part was and why, how the child might have changed the story if they were the author, etc. As the children become more independent readers, # will send home additional tips that you may 2nd useful in helping them become better readers. #t is our class goal that every child read 8or be read to9 a minimum of :;; boos throughout the school year. 8<ust so it does not sound lie such a daunting tas, there are about :=; nights left in the school year e%cluding weeends and holidays.9 #f each child in our class meets their goal, we will have read a total of >,;;; boos? # am asing that you complete the attached boo log for each boo read. # will then use these entries to tie into our 3(oos are 'reasures5 bulletin board in our classroom.
