Middle Childhood

1. Two physical developmental milestones that typically developing children should attain
during this period of development.
One physical milestone that a youngster in this phase of life typically achieves is that
they become more independent about tying their own shoes instead of having it done for
them. Secondly, they are more skilled at being able to seize a ball with the assistance of
their hands (CDC.gov, 2014).
2. Two language developmental milestones that typically developing children should
achieve in this period of development.
Furthermore, one very significant achievement that youngsters in this phase typically
achieve is the fact that they can switch from one subject to another while involved in a
conversation with other individuals. Secondly, if they are able to plainly articulate their
own concepts, and they request help when they do not understand what is being
conveyed (Sevencounties.org, 2005 2014).
3 Two cognitive developmental milestones that typically developing children should achieve
in this period of development.
Generally children in this phase of development are capable of coming up with a better
method of illustrating what they are encountering, and also articulating their
speculations and emotions. Secondly, they are also competent enough to perceive other
peoples point of view (CDC.gov, 2014). An example of this would be that children of this
age would make it a point to make sure what they heard a parent or family member say
by saying so what you said was this and then repeat it.
4Social /emotional milestones .children in this stage of development are typically having a
close relationship with at least one of their parental figures. Secondly it is during this time
that a parent gives their full attention to their child when their child is speaking to them about
things they think are of critical importance (ozretich, R.A. (July, 2001).
5. Moral reasoning/Self regulation. One concept of moral reasoning children in this stage
of development are capable of illustrating is the fact that the way in which they think and the
way they are acting are not exactly related to one another. Secondly, they consider
themselves to be indestructible from anything that is thought of as being negative.
(oregonstate.edu, 2001).

6Social& cultural influences. As a matter of fact, the way in which social factors influence a
childs development is that when a child in this phase of development experiences interaction
with their own siblings they are less likely to become in bad mannerisms. By having the
option of interaction they are at an advantage for improving their cognitive evolution Hair,
Jager & Garrett, 2002). Furthermore, the way in which cultural factors influence child
development is that cultural factors are what help contribute to children being able to form
their own individual identity and figure out who and what they want to be.
7. Explain at least one sign that may signal atypical development during this period of
development.
Middle Childhood
One major sign that could be indicate that development could be headed for an atypical
path would be if the youngster in question is repeatedly creating poor judgments about
what they are doing at school(floridahealth,gov,2009).An example of this would be if a
child comes home from school day after day and conveys to their parent that they made
a choice about something having to do at school and they remark that it was the wrong
choice because they were the only one that made that particular choice. Secondly,
another indication that something is wrong with a childs development in this stage of
development would be if they were to become easily distracted (floridahealth.gov, 2009).
8. Describe at least one strategy that families can use to influence their childrens learning
and development during this period of development.
One specific strategy that families could utilize to aid their youngster with their learning
and development would be to complement their child when they make or behave the
acceptable way, and if the youngster makes the inappropriate judgment then the parent
should make a suggestion about what they think the child should do so the child can
understand what the difference is between right decision versus wrong decision
(nasponline.org, 2002). Secondly, another thing those family members could do to help
influence their childs development is that they could have a discussion about things that
their child sees on television and how it might have made them feel seeing such a thing
happening (Asha.org, 1997-2014)
