childs teacher and want to provide an enriching, respectful, and safe learning environment while they are in my care! CLASSWORK All graded work must be done at school per HISD policy. Class work might not always be paper and pencil activities or assignments. Graded work will go home in Tuesday folders. HOMEWORK Homework is for practice only, but we will check it for accuracy and as a learning opportunity. Your child checks his/ her own homework in class. I keep a record of whether the homework was done or not, which will be reflected on the report card. Homework is daily and is due in the morning the following day. Please help your child to the degree to which you are comfortable. All assignments are listed on the board, and it is your childs responsibility to copy it into their agenda. Please sign your childs agenda every evening. 20 min. of reading every night are mandatory for the year. ACCOUNTABILITY It is your childs responsibility to have you sign their agendas, discipline cards (if sent home), etc. They also need to remember to bring their homework home, complete it, and bring it back to school in the morning. Please do not enable them by coming to the rescue and taking care of these things for them. I expect them to come to school prepared every day, and it is to their benefit when they learn the skills necessary to take care of this on their own. GRADES Formative: Motivation Books District Assessments Daily work Novel Studies Activities Readers notebook Spelling Caf/ Daily 5 Experiments Class discussion Math Journal Weekly Readers

Grades are based on class work and one-on-one evaluations with teachers. There will be at least 6 formative and 2 summative grades given per subject. ABSENCES Always send a note/ email after the absence. Students are responsible for making up work at school because graded work cannot be sent home. They can attend study hall during recess if necessary to complete work. If you know in advance of an absence please let me know, we can try to complete work before. Always email the attendance office.
TARDIES The tardy bell rings at 7:45 am every morning, and your child needs to be in our classroom at that time. When your child comes in late, his/ her day begins in catch up mode because they miss the time I give them in the morning to get homework out/ check, eat breakfast, and begin warm-up.
EXTRA CREDIT There is no individual assigned extra credit in my class. There are sometimes bonus questions on Summative Assessments.
