Dear Parents and Students

I would like to welcome you to KG 1 Olaf the snowman class.

My name is Miss. Nicola Mina and I will be teaching your child this year.
This is my fourth year at Emirates National School, I am South African; I have 6 years of teaching experience in early childhood
Education. I started my teaching career in South Africa for two years and in 2010 I moved abroad to Abu Dhabi. It has been great
getting to know the city and its culturally rich people. This is my second year as KG 1 Coordinator and I look forward to a wonderful
year.
At ENS, our learning is based on the PYP, (Primary Years Program) which is built on 5 units. PYP focuses on the
development of the whole child, and provides a framework that meets a childs academic, social, physical, emotional and cultural
needs. It is inquiry based and lends itself to being integrated across the curriculum. Students take ownership of their learning and
through hands-on activities, develop skills and attitudes to help prepare them for life in the outside world. Here in ENS KG we use
the High Scope approach to help us deliver our PYP unit focuses in a meaningful way. High Scope is an approach to early learning
which identifies and builds on childrens strengths, interests and abilities. The High Scope approach invites children to be part of an
active participatory learning experience. Please note that we will hold curriculum related workshops throughout the year. Please
ensure that you attend our coffee mornings and workshops in order to help your children at home and monitor their progress.
Weebly will be used as a tool to inform parents of their childrens learning experience, important event at school as well as
conveying information and communication from administration. It is very important that parents check daily. At the end of each
week, I will write a review of what your child got up to in the classroom along with some photographs and will post them on
Weebly. This is the official website where parents can keep up to date with what is going on at school and what their children
have been learning. We will invite you for curriculum workshops throughout the year. Please ensure that you attend our coffee
mornings to stay undated with curriculum.
Please note we have no sweets policy in KG. Please ensure you do not send any sweets to school for any reason.
I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage you to become involved in your childs learning as much as possible
throughout the year. Parent involvement plays a very strong role in students level of achievement.
Also, I would be very grateful if you could label all of your childs clothing at the beginning of the year as it makes things a lot
easier when things are misplaced in school.

Please note that our classroom is situated in Pod A, ground floor. We are pleased to have Ms. Lynn as our Classroom Assistant, she
is from the Philippines. With your cooperation we both anticipate a very successful and enjoyable year with your child. Thank you
