Heres what we are studying!!
Reading/Language Arts- We will be doing many stories about forms of energy.
These are mostly Expository texts and will improve your students reading level.
We will focus on Reading for Information, making Inferences, and improving our
Comprehension. Your student needs 25 AR points for me at the end of this nine
weeks, READ READ READ!!! Some students are off pace to reach their goal.
We are focusing on the various parts of speech to improve our writing skills. We
will also be working on correctly sequencing stories and the proper ways to
organize our thoughts and ideas when writing.

Math- During the month of September we will be finishing up Unit 1 with the
multiplication and division of whole numbers. Please feel free to show your child
the way "you and I" learned to multiply and divide. When they reach fifth grade, I
begin teaching them the standard algorithm "our way" for multiplication and
division. We will then begin Unit 2, which covers decimal place value and the
addition and subtraction of decimals. This unit will take us into October. In
addition, please be sure to check that your child is completing his or her Simple
Solutions homework each night. We will continue to take a quiz that covers some
questions from the homework on Fridays. Also check your child's math binder as
graded work and tests are given back and placed in these binders. The checklist at
the beginning of the binder is color coded so that you will be aware of their
progress towards meeting Common Core Math Standards. Thanks for all you do.

SS: Students will be concluding the Civil War unit and moving onto the divisive
time period know as Reconstruction. Freedoms will be gained by some. However,
violence will still be prevalent as the country tries to put itself back together in a
time period almost as difficult as the war itself.

Science: During the month of September the students will be learning about
events below the Earth's surface that can shape our surroundings.
