Students will describe the similarities and differences between the text and
the books and write an essay comparing the two texts.



Prior Knowl e dge :

Understand that different texts are written with varied perspectives





Task:

Students are put in pairs and read the blurb from the book and the plot
summary of the movie looking for similarities and differences in each
(language used, intended audience, point of view, information included etc).
After reading these the students need to analyse the pictures and text on the
covers of the film and book and start searching for similarities and
differences.
Students will then log on to a laptop or IPad and open up the Compare
and Contrast Map generator
(http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/interactives/compcontrast/map/)
The students will fill in the similarities and differences on the graphic
organiser to plan their essays.
Once complete, students will write an essay describing the similarities and
differences among the book and film summaries and covers.

Adaptation:

In the classroom do a unit on the book, read it as a class and watch the movie.
