Web Site Analysis
I dont really go online to look up symptoms or to try to resolve a medical issue for myself. One
of the most used health information website is WebMD. They pride themselves on having
credible and up to date information. WebMD is run by a senior staff and editorial team as well
as their other colleagues from MedicieNet. Most of the money that goes into WebMD is from
their advertisements and their sponsors. and their information comes from their board certified
physicians, journalists, and community moderators. All of these individuals have their
credentials verified by WebMD. As stated earlier, WebMD has an editorial team that selects the
information on the site. These editors are Michael W. Smith, MD; Brunilda Nazario, MD; Hansa
Bhargava, MD; and Arefa Cassoophoy, MD; all of whom are doctors. Their content is based on
its relevance, clinical significance, and trends like cold and flu season and breast cancer
awareness. The fact that WebMD has content based on different trends is probably one of the
reasons that the information on WebMD is fairly current. On one side, Im not sure I dont think
I can take it 100% serious because of jokes that Ive heard many times about how everything
you look up on WebMD will just end up with you having cancer. But on the other side, based on
the information about the staff and credibility of this website, I believe that I could trust the
information on this website for my health, but not entirely, of course. I would still physically ask
a doctor if something serious was going on.
