My Role as a child development professional As a child development professional my role is to keep my self educated, and trained on new information that focuses on the age group I will be working with. It is also my role to be aware of the childrens needs and to make sure their needs are met. As child development professional I will make sure that their environment is safe, there is no bullying or feeling neglected. I will have an open communication with parents and teachers. Feedback that is given to me will be taken seriously and looked into. Period of development this presentation will focus on. The period of development the presentation will focus on is children who are in Pre-K to sixth grade. Mesosystem The Mesosystem is the second level of Breonfenbreeners model,the mesosystem, encom-passes connections between microsystems , such as home, school, neighborhood, and child-care center(Berk, L. E. 2013). A child may be able to progress very well on their own in the classroom but a lot of their ability to make progress depends on how much academics are promoted in each of the students homes, as well as how involved the parents are with the childs learning approach at home in- school and after- school programs that substitute for lack of other resources by providing child care and art, music, sports, scouting, and other enrichment activities are associated with improved school perfor- mance and a reduction in emotional and behavior problems in middle childhood (Berk, L. E. 2013) Epsteins Six Types of Involvement The framework enables educators to develop effective programs designed to bring school, family and community together in a positive manner (Hatter, 2014). The six types of involvement are the following: - Parenting - Communicating - Volunteering - Learning at home - Decision Making - Collaborating with community Parenting How parenting influences a childs learning and development: -Children know the importance of school, how to balance school, house chores and activities. They start to respect their parents, and have improved school attendance. The schools role to implement aligns with different cultures represented at schools: - The school can offer parent education classes where they are eligible to work towards GED, or college courses. - Schools can host family support nights that inform them about proper nutrition, health and other services
Communicating How communicating influences a childs learning and development: They are aware of their progress in their classes and skills. Children are also developing a sense of awareness of how to improve their grades or maintain what they are getting.
How the school or community can implement right away that aligns with the cultures represented at the school. The school can provide language translation when meetings are taken place, have regular house calls or written notes each day. Schools can also have memos, newsletter that have are written in their language. Volunteering How volunteering influences a childs learning and development They are developing how to interact with adults, learn new skills, talents and contributions.
One idea the school or community could implement right away that aligns with the cultures represented at the school: Schools and community can have host an event for families to come together to work on project for the school or community. Have parents volunteer in the classrooms or the school. Learning at Home How learning at home influences a childs learning and development. Children will start to develop self confidence as a learner and have positive attitude about school. This type of involvement influences children to complete homework assignments, and gain skills and abilities.
One idea the school or community could implement right away that aligns with the cultures represented at the school: Schools can hold an information night where they discuss what is required for students at each grade. Teachers can speak to parents on homework polices and what will be accepted from the children. The school and community can provide afterschool homework help.
Decision Making How decision making influences a childs learning and development: This type of involvement influences a childs learning and development by the students becoming aware of representation of families in school decisions. Understanding that student rights are protected. Specific benefits linked to policies enacted by parent organizations and experienced by students One idea the school or community could implement right away that aligns with the cultures represented at the school: The school can get the parents actively involved in the schools decisions by part of a committee or board such as the PTA.
COLLABORATING WITH COMMUNTY How collaborating influences a childs learning and development: This type of involvement influences a childs learning and development by becoming aware of how they belong to the community. They are aware of what their career and future education can be.
One idea the school or community could implement right away that aligns with the cultures represented at the school: The community can get parents together by working on projects in the neighborhood such as a park clean up day, building a new playground and painting.
