ISOTOPES
Why do we care
about isotopes?
isotopic labeling radioactive isotope
dating
Nothing to do with this
class really, but its
interesting and thought
you should have it
available to you if youd
like to see it!
chemical bonds
Ionic: one atom takes an electron from another resulting in
a positively charged particle (cation) and a negatively
charged particle (anion) which are drawn to each other
because of their opposite charges.
(ex: salt)
Covalent: one atom shares electron(s) with others
polar: one atom is strongly pulling in the electron(s) from
another/other atom(s)
(ex: Hydrogen and Oxygen within one molecule of water)
non-polar: atoms are mostly equally sharing the valence
electrons
(ex: oil of any sort)
Hydrogen: a slightly positive hydrogen is attracted to a
slightly negative oxygen
(ex: Hydrogen of one water molecule and Oxygen of
another water molecule)
