Classroom Expectations and Procedures

The following information is to ensure that all students have the same opportunity in reaching their goals and
succeeding academically.

Course Description:
This years theme for College Prep. 9 is for students to gain awareness and insight on different perspectives,
which will encourage critical thinking. We will also focus on academic literacy, organization, and study skills in
preparation for their high school, college, and professional careers.

Supplies:
Student Agenda (available for purchase in main office) Need this by Thursday/Friday for points
Composition Notebook for Journal Entries
A 3 Three-Ring Binder
Tabbed Subject Dividers (7)
Paper (8 1/2 x 11, college ruled)
Two pens (black or blue ink)
#2 pencils
Highlighters (at least 3 different colors)
Collegiate Dictionary (pocket-size)

Homework Policy:
Students will have an agenda, where they will record their daily assignments and homework. Assignments will
be collected/graded on a weekly basis and entered into PowerSchool. Students may make up assignments
due to EXCUSED absences only.

Attendance:
Students are expected to be in class everyday. Students must be in their seats and ready to work by the time
the tardy bell rings. Excessive tardiness will result in consequences.

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you have missed. Check the Missed Work tray to
find out what was assigned during your absence. If you have an excused absent the day an assignment is
due, you are responsible for turning it in on your first day back to class or emailing it to me. If you are absent
on the day of a test you will have 2 days to make up the test outside of class time. Truancy (cutting or
ditching class) may NOT be made up.

Grades:
The following is the breakdown of grades for College Prep 9:
Learning Target 1: Academic Literacy 35%
Learning Target 2: College Readiness Goals 25%
Learning Target 3: Career Readiness Goals 20%
Learning Target 4: Organization/Work Habits 20%

Students will receive a final mark at the end of each semester. There will be weekly progress reports given to
the student every week. Students, parents, and guardians may check grades on PowerSchool or before/after
class throughout the semester. Grades will be based on performance on formative and summative

assessments. The following scale will be used to determine grades (Please e-mail with questions or if you
need more clarification):

1.0 FAR BELOW BASIC: With help, a partial understanding of some of the simpler details and processes and
some of the more complex ideas and processes.

2.0 BELOW BASIC: There are no major errors or omissions regarding the simpler details and processes

2.5 BASIC: No major errors or omissions regarding 2.0 content and partial knowledge of the 3.0 content.

3.0 PROFICIENT: Student shows proficiency in content (varies by learning target)

3.5 PROFICIENT TOWARD MASTERY: Student shows proficiency and are close to mastering the content.

4.0 ADVANCED: In addition to Score 3.0, in-depth inferences and applications that go beyond what was
taught.

Late Work Policy:
You will not be able to turn in late work for any classwork or homework. For larger projects, you may request
for an extension through email or talking to me in person.

Behavior:
Food, drinks, candy, and gum are not allowed in class. Bottled water will be permitted.
There is absolutely no cursing in class. Cell Phones and IPods are prohibited. If problem persists, there will
be further consequences. Parents: To contact your child, please contact the ECHS office.

Consequences:
Students who fail to meet classroom expectations will receive a consequence for their actions. Consequences
include written warnings, parent phone calls home, SRCs, or parent conferences.

Parent Participation:
It is imperative that parents participate in their childs education. Please assist me in the following manner:
Ask your child what they learned in class
Regularly check his/her agenda and PowerSchool for assignments and grades
Review the weeks work with your student
Parents are always welcome to visit our classroom after checking in with the main office.

Parents can make an appointment to meet with me. I am available almost every day. Please call at least 24
hours in advance to make an appointment in order to ensure that I am available to meet. If parents would like
to volunteer, please contact me for more information.

General Classroom Expectations:
Students must:
1. Be on time
2. Be prepared
3. Be respectful
4. Support their classmates

Binder Checks

What: I will be checking your binder for specific teachers requests and overall organization.
Why: By keeping you accountable for maintaining your binder, I will assist you in your organizational
skills and further your progress towards overall academic success.
When: I will be doing binder checks roughly every week.

The following should be tabs titled in your binder:
1. English
2. Math
3. Horticulture (Whichever Spanish you are enrolled in)
4. Environmental Science
5. College Prep
6. Art
7. Advisory

Along with the necessary materials for each class, you should always have lined loose-leaf paper at the
end of your binder.
