$%&ec'i(e: To present mathematics content to a variety of scholars from an engaging, real-
world perspective in order to encourage them to become thoughtful citizens, problem-solvers and
critical thinkers.
Goal: Our goal is for 100 of scholars to score !0 or higher on all mathematics content.
"ased upon national standards, a minimum of !0 proficiency demonstrates that scholars are
on-track to be ready for the rigors of college and professional careers. This year, we will work
together as a team in order to support each other in reaching this goal. #owever, $ust like in any
team, every individual must put their best effort forward in order for the class to be as successful
as possible.
)ourse )on'en':
This course continues the tra$ectory that began in %ath & towards a more formalized
understanding of mathematics that occurs at the high school level. 'cholars e(tend ratio
reasoning to analyze proportional relationships and solve real-world and mathematical problems)
e(tend previous understanding of the number system and operations to perform operations using
all rational numbers) apply properties of operations in the conte(t of algebraic e(pressions and
e*uations) draw, construct, describe, and analyze geometrical figures and the relationships
between them) apply understandings of statistical variability and distributions by using random
sampling, making inferences, and investigating chance processes and probability models.
'cholars in %ath + #onors will have assignments that reflect the inherent rigor of honors level
courses. ,ncluded will be long-term pro$ects and problem-based assignments that offer students
the opportunity to directly apply mathematics at a more comple( level.
Me'hods of Ins'ruc'ion:
- variety of methods will be used in accomplishing our goal this year and will include, but are
not limited to, e(ploration-based concept attainment, college-style lectures, paired and
cooperative groups and multimedia instruction. Other teaching and learning strategies used in
this class are. class discussion, group work, technology based assignments, writing activities,
constructive activities, and student teaching.
Guardian and S'uden' Accoun'a%ili'y:
