Grade Integrated Science
Mrs. LaCross
Room 601

.

Class Goals: The focus of the class this year will be structure. We will learn that all
substances are made of smaller parts and are themselves parts of larger wholes. We
will also learn how science works and how to find scientific answers on our own.

What you will need to bring to class: In order to be successful in this class you will
need to bring the following every day:

At least one pencil or pen

Daily Planner

Any assigned homework

Binder, folder, or some other system for carrying assignments to and from school,
which ever will work best for you.

All students will need to provide a 1-inch binder that will stay in my classroom. If
you need help obtaining one please come talk to me individually.

What you need to do: Most of the assignments can be done in class, if they are not
they will need to be completed as homework. Students will be conducting a science fair
project this year. I will send that information home at a later date (around October), it is
required for all students.

Makeup Work: If you are absent when you come back you need to find out what you
missed and get the assignment from the extra copies box or if available online yourself.
If you have missed a lab you need to make arrangements with me to come in before or
after school to make it up, some labs might have an alternative assignment that might
work in its place, others the lab really is the best way to understand the material.

I will accept late work without penalty up until the week before the end of the term. In
order to get credit for late work however, you must get at least a 70% on the assignment
for it to go into the grade book. This is due to the fact you have already had more time
then everyone else so you need to take your time and do your best on it. Sloppy,
unfinished work will be handed back for you to re-do. All students are able to re-take
tests and quizzes for higher scores. However, all assignments and labs must be made
up prior to being allowed a re-take. There will be NO EXTRA CREDIT in this class. The
goal of this class if for the students to learn the material, the best way to achieve this
goal is to do the work that is already assigned. If a higher grade is desired students
may re-do any portion of the grade that is bring their grade down.

Grading: Each assignment will be given a point value. Letter grades are earned
according to the following percentage of total points for the term.

A 100-94% A- 93-90% B+ 89-87% B 86-84% B- 83-80% C+ 79-77%
C 76-74% C- 73-70% D+ 69-67% D 66-69% D- 63-60% Below 60% is an F

I will be weighting grades, the break down of what their grade will be made up of is as
follows:
35% Tests/Quizzes 35% Labs/Projects
20% Class work/Homework 10% Self-starters

Note to Parents: From time to time students will correct each others classroom
assignments. I will always correct tests and quizzes myself. If this is a problem please
let me know on the return slip at the end of this form.

I will be keeping a website for students to be able to access at home. It will have
information about the class, digital copies of class materials, science fair information
and self-starters. It is basic now and will grow with the school year. To find it you can
also go to the schools website and go to teachers and look for my name.
