COURSE SYLLABUS 2014 - 2015 Digital Cinema Production 450 - 900 Hours.

Course Description
Continuing students will develop advanced knowledge and techniques in video and post-pro-
duction, preparing themselves for college or full-time employment in the motion picture, broad-
cast and video production eld. Students will be expected to work diligently and perform
productions directly involved with MTEC and outside clients. Secondary students will be expected
to produce high quality productions and encouraged to take part in festivals and competitions, as
well as active mentors and teaching assistants for rst year students.

Course Objectives

Demonstrate advanced production and post-production techniques.

Work efciently and professionally with clients and crew.

Produce high end product for distribution and networking.

Time Management

Able to work independently

Extra Attention to detail and producing highly polished work

Submit work into a video competition

Evaluation

40% Employability Skills (Attendance, punctuality, good communication, following


directions)

10% Active participation during class time (Teaching Assistants)

30% Assigned projects (this includes specic writing assignments)

20% Writing Assignments and Test Taking


Course Breakdown

1st Quarter : Content Legalities, Production books with draft and revision script,
Storyboards and Shot Lists. Advanced framing techniques, Microphone Techniques,
Lighting Techniques and green screening.(*note some rst year lessons will apply to
advanced students as a refresher)

2nd Quarter :Workshops in Audio Post, Motion graphics and extensive Compositing

3rd Quarter : Final Cut Instruction, Workshops in Digital Festival Entry,Professional


Production Portfolio and Designer

4th Quarter : Final Cut Certication Exam (Price TBD)

(does not include school /class fees or books)
x1 16GB or larger SDHC Memory Card (class 10 speed, 30mb/sec write
speed, *Student will also reuse previous years SD-card for a total of x2 SD
cards)
1TB Hard Drive (students may reuse hard drives from last year although they
will lose all the work from the previous year, If the student decides to reuse the
hard drive you may deduct $68 from the supply fee)
x1 Koss UR-20 On-ear Headphones (students may reuse last years headphones
deduct $19)
SD-Card Wallet

Must Have Access To Homeowners Insurance. Unfortunately, Without Active
Homeowners Insurance Students will not be allowed to remove equipment off campus)
Quarterly Projects
1. First Quarter Project
Students will outline a timely
schedule, a complete pre-pro-
duction & begin Production
Deadlines :TBD!!!

2. Second Quarter Project
Students will wrap up produc-
tion & begin Editing projects.
Production target lengths will be
between 10 -15 minutes of
Quality. About 120min. of raw
footage

3. Third Quarter Project
Sound Design and Graphics
Students will be incorporating
custom sound design & profes-
sional graphics in order to sub-
mit a final cut of their produc-
tion to The Thomas Meighan
Film Fest Held May 2, 2015

4. Forth Quarter Project
Finished Product Students will
create a online demo reel along
with a press kit ready for sub-
mission to various video festi-
vals. Due No later then April 24!
FCP X certification Exam

Equipment Check Out
Procedures
students must have all forms
and equipment releases lled
out prior to signing out equip-
ment off of MTEC premises.
Failure to comply will result in
loss of rental privileges. It will
be the students responsibility
to obtain equipment in order to
complete class assignments.
