Middle School! The success of your
child depends upon teacher/ parent/
student relationships. We are all
members of a TEAM! Your child is
expected to behave in a manner that
will promote a positive learning and
teaching environment. Procedures
and rules have been established to
provide each student with the overall
best learning environment. Please
read and discuss these procedures
with your child. Return the attached
verification sheet by Friday, August
22, 2014 to your childs first period
teacher. Your signature indicates that
you have read, discussed, understood,
and agree to honor the expectations
outlined in this letter. We are
confident that by working together,
we will all have a successful year.

Course Curriculum
At Margate Middle School, we align all our courses
with the Florida standards in order to prepare our
students for success on the Florida Standards
Assessments. More importantly, we believe our
curricula are designed to give all our students the
skills needed to be successful and productive members
of our society now and in the future.

Language Arts - A curriculum that focuses on
writing and proper grammar usage as well as
childrens literature selections based on
Houghton-Mifflins Florida Collections, a
digitally based language arts program. Students
will access the Internet for homework and
classwork.

Social Studies-Introduction to World Cultures
and the Development of Civilizations

Science A comprehensive curriculum that
focuses on the nature of science, weather, earth
science and astronomy.

Reading - Students will be learning from
textbook Inside, novel studies, and educational
programs. Your child will be exposed to
information in a variety of ways through lecture,
group activities, independent work, and academic
games. We will be working through our class
work and homework assignments at a productive
pace so it is imperative that your child keeps up
with all assignments.

Report cards
Report cards will be issued on the
following dates:

First Quarter November 13, 2014
Second Quarter January 21, 2015
Third Quarter April 15, 2015
Fourth Quarter June 24, 2015

Interim Reports
The team will issue interim Reports to each
student during the fourth week of each quarter.
These reports will inform you of your childs
progress and conduct. You must sign and
return the Interim Report to your childs first
period teacher the day after he/she receives it.
You can expect Interim Reports on the
following dates:
First Quarter Interim September 18, 2014
Second Quarter Interim November 20, 2014

Fourth Quarter Interim April 30, 2015
Conferences
Parent/teacher conferences may be
scheduled by calling the Guidance
Office at 754-322-3800. Conferences
are held on Wednesday and Thursday
mornings from 8:25-9:00. Parent
conferences will either be at 8:25 or
8:45 and that it is important to be
prompt as time is limited. To ensure
the best possible environment for
encouragement and growth, we require
that your child be present at the
conference with his/her planner.

All students must maintain
satisfactory conduct in order to
participate in interscholastic,
athletic and extra-curricular
activities. Eligibility to
participate is both an honor and
a privilege. To participate in
extracurricular interscholastic
sports or school clubs, students
must maintain an "unweighted"
grade point average of 2.0 or
higher.
Student Planners
Your child will be supplied with a mandatory planner
by the school. Students will receive a weekly grade on
their agendas based on using them as directed by their
grade level team. This grade affects students final
grades for the quarter.
We use the planner as our primary means of
communication with our students parents/guardians.
It is essential for you to review your childs planner
on a daily basis. We appreciate your cooperation and
teamwork in helping your child become a more
organized, responsible, and successful student. Lastly,
NO PAGES ARE TO BE REMOVED FROM THE
PLANNER AT ANY TIME DURING THE YEAR.
Grades will be based on class
work, homework, tests,
quizzes, and projects. The
Broward County grading
scale (policy 6000.1) will be
in effect.
