6/7 Compressed Mathematics

Course Overview
This accelerated course is aligned with the 6th and 7th grade standards as described in the California Common
Core State Standards. Coursework will compiled from MathScape: Seeing and Thinking Mathematically and
EngageNY curriculum. The nature of the curriculum is such that these standards may be seen in differing
contexts that include applications from other fields of study, technology, and mathematics beyond the
framework.

Expectations
Students are expected to attend regularly AND actively participate. Active participation includes bringing
materials, attentive listening, checking work when solutions are presented, volunteering to present, asking
appropriate questions and doing math when work time is provided

All students will demonstrate age appropriate maturity and responsibility by:
Collaborating and cooperating with students in their group
Turning in assignments on time every day in class
Coming to class prepared
Actively participating in all activities with the maturity of a young adult

Grading Policies
Assignments will be graded with points. The points will be categorized and weighted as follows:
Homework/Classwork 50%
Presentations/Projects 20 %
Tests/Assessments 30%


Letter grades will be assigned as follows:
90% - 100% A
80% - 89% B
70% - 79% C
60% 69% D
Less then 60% F

Make-up work can be turned in on the day of return from an excused absence for full credit. Extended absence
will be handled on a case by case basis.

Late Work will be accepted for full credit from excused absences. It is a students responsibility to collect all
missing assignments the day they return. Late work will be accepted until the end of the unit. Homework that
was not done, plagiarized, or followed an unexcused absence will not be accepted.

Make-up tests: It is the students responsibility to find a time to make up tests. They have one week to make up
the test.

Test Corrections: Students will have the opportunity to raise a low test score by correcting missed problems as
additional homework. Students can receive up to 10% credit.

Support
Students having difficulty with the course material can message me on ENGRADE. TCK and MB students can
get help Tuesday and Thursday at lunch, or after school. TCK students can visit Ms. Borlik for support and MB
students can visit Mrs. Voyer for assistance.

Course Rules/Procedures
Be in your seat with all necessary supplies when the bell rings.
Follow directions the first time they are given
No cursing or teasing.
No distractions: No grooming. No Food or Drinks. No electronics.
Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
