Utah State Standard Utah has Core Standards for all the academic areas taught in our K-12 public
schools. These Standards establish a framework for high quality instruction. They help Utah teachers
ensure academic achievement for Utah students by defining the essential knowledge, concepts, and skills
to be mastered at each grade level or within critical content areas. They are like a set of building codes.
They define what students should know and do to be ready for post high school jobs and schooling.

Grade Mathematics (Lesson plan from http://www.uen.org/Lessonplan/LPview.cgi?core=)
1. Students will learn how algebra applies to the real world. Students will build upon the
knowledge they already have in the subject and learn more challenging and applicable
equations.
2. Students will write algebraic expressions for words. Students will read, write, and
evaluate expressions in which letters stand for numbers.
Objectives Students will learn several math skills such as; dividing fractions, investing money,
two-step equations, mathematical patterns, scales, and models, measurements, exponential
expressions, decimals, surface area, and many more. Students will be able to recognize these
algebraic problems, how to solve them, and how to apply them to real life situations.
Materials Textbook, workbook, calculator, ruler and other measuring tools, flashcards to assist
in memorizing equations, assignments, practice quizzes.
Intended Learning Outcomes Students will learn several math skills such as; dividing
fractions, investing money, two-step equations, mathematical patterns, scales, and models,
measurements, exponential expressions, decimals, surface area, and many more. Students will be
able to recognize these algebraic problems, how to solve them, and how to apply them to real life
situations.
Instructional Procedures
1. Provide equations and other materials necessary for these math skills.
2. Provide several examples of how to perform math functions.
3. Ask students to demonstrate their knowledge by performing problems in front of the class
(ask for class help if necessary.)
4. Assist students in completing an assignment before having them do one on their own.
5. Discuss how each of these math skills are applicable to real life situations.
Take Home Activity
1. Study the math formulas and become familiar with the equations.
2. Complete the assignment given in class and study the textbook to ensure familiarity.
3. Ask somebody at home to test you by using the flashcards made in class.
4. Come up with 5 problems for a classmate to solve.
Assessment Plan
1. Students are able to complete an assignment with various math equations and skills.
2. Students are able to create their own math problems.
3. Students are able to solve the problems that other students created.
