Words: 2,000 or equivalent

To receive a passing grade (or better) in the unit, you must achieve a passing grade
(or better) in each of the two assignments. Please note that if you are enrolled in
EDIT 100, you are required to successfully complete the 10 days of professional
experience to obtain a Satisfied Requirement (SR) in order to successfully pass this
unit.

In each assignment you are expected to provide evidence that you understand the
relevant academic literature and that you are able to analyse the literature.

Carefully read the following school of Education and UNE policies: Assessment
Information, Assessment Policy, and Plagiarism. There are also a variety of other
useful policies that can be found on the link at the bottom of your Moodle page to
Student Policies. All referencing should follow the APA style.

Learning Outcomes addressed in this assignment (LO) for those students
enrolled in EDIT 100:
LO#1: Explain and demonstrate how digital resources and tools can be used to
enable deeper student engagement with curriculum and to support a range of
approaches and strategies to learning and teaching.
LO#2: Describe and demonstrate the use of digital resources and tools to support the
location, analysis, evaluation and processing of information.
LO#3: Use digital resources and tools, safely legally and ethically including cyber
safety practices, respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the
appropriate documentation of sources.
LO#4: Identify and explain the risks to students well-being and safety while using
digital resources and tools and describe how to mitigate these risks.
LO#5: Use digital resources and tools to provide a range of opportunities for sharing,
communication and collaboration, including: collaborative and cooperative
learning; engaging parents/carers in their childrens learning; enhancing
professional practice available through online communication with experts and
community representatives; and contribution to professional and community

Assignment 1

Aim: Model the use of a variety of applications in a classroom to minimise
the use of paper.
Description: You need to think forward to when you are teaching in the
classroom. This assignment will demonstrate how you, as the
classroom teacher, can set a variety of tasks so that students dont
have to use any paper. For this assignment you will be creating and
submitting example documents and teaching materials supporting
an eClassroom. Finally you will demonstrate how to convert all
documents into one PDF document.


This assignment is broken into two parts (total 50% of semester marks). You must
complete the tasks and then submit your ePortfolio assignment as one complete task.
When you go to submit your assignment, you will submit all tasks that you have been
working on in the ePortfolio as outlined.

Assignment 1 consists of five weekly parts. You are to complete weekly tasks and
then submit your final eClassroom assessment tasks as outlined.

Week 1: Familiarisation with Moodle and requirements for the unit
Requirements:
Log on to Moodle and familiarise yourself with navigating. Click on the links to find out
what is there.
Task:
1.1 Go to the Moodle Forum topic called Introductions and introduce yourself.
State a little about yourself. (This statement should be copied and placed in
your ePortfolio on your main page see information about your ePortfolio
later).
1.2 Create an Evernote account: http://www.evernote.com (This is a space that
can be synced on a computer, mobile phone, iPad, etc, collect information and
store you can add URLs, text, audio, images, video, checkboxes and share
different pages with colleagues). Evernote is the space for writing reflections on
your learning. It is where you can add information before organising the final
submission. There is information on using Evernote on Moodle.
1.3 Log on to the Facebook group (not compulsory) (http://www.facebook.com)
and say hello to group members. Facebook is a great space for sharing
resources with your peers. The link to Facebook group is on Moodle.
1.4 Familiarise yourself with http://www.creativity-project.net/ingentool.php. This
may help you in doing all assignments throughout your career. Follow the
instructions on how to complete an assignment.
1.5 Visit the resources pages and helpful URLs on Moodle to see what is available
and what may be used in this unit.

Assessable Tasks
Week 2: ePortfolio shell, forum posting and reflections
Requirements:
The ePortfolio is to be used for the whole of your unit/course/career and you
will also post to the forum and reflect on the activity. View the ePortfolio shell that has
been created: http://eportfolioeg.wikispaces.com/. You are required to create an
ePortfolio shell that can be added to over your degree and career as a teacher. It is
based on the National Professional Standards for Graduate Teachers (AITSL) and
ACECQA if studying Early Childhood. This is your ePortfolio, so you need to think of
a name and look/feel that suits you. You can use whatever tool you desire to create
your ePortfolio and wikispaces is just one example. You could use a website, a blog,
wiki, word processor or even presentation software. However, be mindful that you will
be adding text, images, audio, video to your pages and whatever you choose has to
be able to support this.

If you choose to create your ePortfolio using Wikispaces, there are instructions on how
to create a wiki in wikispaces in YouTube http://youtu.be/Ypa8dhhN87c
Task:
2.1 Create your ePortfolio shell. You will be adding to the ePortfolio over the
trimester. Begin this week by setting up the shell and adding to it over the
trimester. When the assignment is due, all components will be in place. Ensure
that you enable all people marking with access to your ePortfolio. Write an
introduction to yourself on your front page.
2.2 Write your reflections of this activity in Evernote.
2.3 Post to the forum your thoughts on Why would you reflect on your learning
activities? Add these thoughts to Evernote.
2.4 Add your reflection and forum posts to your ePortfolio in AITSL Standard 2.6.

Week 3: Advanced word processing, forum postings and reflections
Requirements: demonstrate some advanced word processing skills such as track
changes, inserting images, reflect on the activity and post to the forum.
Weekly Task:
3.1 You are the teacher of a Stage 3 class (approximately Year 5/6, children aged
around 11 years). You have set your students a task that must be completed.
Jenny has completed the assignment, a segment can be found below, called
Jennys Assignment. Jennys instructions were to write on a topic of interest
on something that has happened recently. As the teacher, your task is to mark
Jennys writing using features such as track changes, insert comments, strike
through, speech bubbles, highlighting, shading, smiley faces, images, etc.
Jennys story must be marked on a computer using word processor tools. The
completed marked assignment is your assessment task. Please correct Jennys
assignment using many word processing features.
Note: This task is assessing your ability to demonstrate a variety of word
processing tools. It is NOT assessing your ability to find mistakes in the
text.

Week 4: Spreadsheet skills, forum posting and reflections
Requirements: Demonstrate spreadsheet skills, reflect on the activity and post to the
forum.
Weekly Task:
4.1 You are being supplied with basic spreadsheet information, see Classroom
spreadsheet details below. You are to demonstrate your ability to use a
spreadsheet by adding formulas and chart. The spreadsheet details that you are
to use are:

Week 5: Mind map, forum postings and reflections
Requirements: create a mind map after a brain storming session with your peers in
the forum. You are to consider a social networking tool that could be used in the
classroom. Mind map how it could be used. Reflect on the activity and post to the
forum.
Weekly Task:
5.1 Create a Mind Map. There are a variety of free downloadable mind mapping
programs from the Internet. Go exploring and find one that suits your needs.
Brainstorm with your peers on the Moodle Forum Mind Mapping Braining
Storming Forum on the components of your Mind Map.
The questions to be brainstormed on the forum are:
Think of a social networking tool that could be used in your chosen area as a
teacher (i.e. Early Childhood, Primary, High school). There are a variety of
social networking tools from which to choose a sample can be found at:
http://edit100.wikispaces.com. Consider how that tool could be used in your
chosen area.
You are to brainstorm ideas on what you would place in the Mind Map.
Create an image out of your completed mind map in a .gif, .jpg, or .bmp
format and insert in your ePortfolio.

5.3 Write your reflections of this activity in Evernote and add your posts from your

5.4 Add your mind map, reflection and forum posts to your ePortfolio in AITSL
Standard 3.4.
Note: A mind map should have interconnection nodes it is not a tree diagram.

Week 6: Assignment 1 Due
Requirements: Invite your marker to view your ePortfolio for marking (if applicable).
Make sure you use their correct email. They will have informed you of this over the
trimester. Your ePortfolio must contain all elements of the weekly tasks as requested.
Therefore, there should be a shell of your ePortfolio containing the headings of all
AITSL/ACECQA Standards (as outlined in the AITSL/ACECQA example wiki), word
processing documents, spreadsheets, mind map and personal information about
yourself on the front page.

Note: Only Early Childhood students need to add the ACECQA Standards to their
ePortfolio. All students have to add the AITSL Standards.

How to submit your completed assignment
Submission via Moodle with a link to access your ePortfolio. Please ensure all
people marking your assignment have access to your ePortfolio (all email addresses
can be found on the right side on the Moodle home page). The following should be
included in your ePortfolio (Standards are in brackets). This is the only place
markers will be looking for your completed tasks. If they are not there, you
will receive zero (0) marks for that Standard:

Hint: How to do all tasks can be found on the resources pages in Moodle.
To create screen shots:
o Macintosh - hold down the Option+Shift+4 keys together. A picture will be
placed on the desktop (ie a .png document). Insert picture into the document.
o PC hold down alt + Prt Screen Print Screen button on the numeric keypad
and then paste into the document. Use the crop feature to adjust the image.
