Liver secretes bile for fat digestion. The hypatocystes (cells) of liver produce bile.

The bile is
stored in gallbladder. The bile duct of liver and cystic duct of gallbladder form common bile duct.
The common bile duct join the pancreatic duct, the bile from common bile duct and pancreatic
juice from pancreatic duct empty into duodenum (of small intestine) through the sphincter of
oddi (valve) if it is opened. The opening of this valve is controlled by a hormone called
Cholecystokinin.
Bile juice helps in emulsificaton of fats.
Bile is alkaline solution. ts molecules have dual nature (one end is attracted to !ater molecule
!hile other is attracted to aft molecule). Thus its molecules remain in bet!een !ater molecules
and fat molecules (emulsification process).
f bile molecules !ere not present bet!een fats and !ater, the fat molecules !ould be repelled by
!ater molecules and be attracted to each other. The fat molecules !ould merge together because
fats are insoluble in !ater. The merged fats !oud not be easily broken do!n !ith lipase (fat
digesting en"yme).
#o bile attractes the fat molecules and separate them from each other. t makes the fat digestion
easier.
