My Family Tree!
From the furthest reaches of my mind, I truly know of one thing. My ethnicity reaches back to
both the plains of the Native Americans in the Southeast, and the sprawling Savannahs in Africa. As we
all know, there will always be a fence as to how far back in the past in the past we can go, thanks to the
Grim Reaper. Therefore, we will never have absolute knowledge of our history. However, while most
were from knowledge gleaned from the past, its still relevant now. So, lets begin to my mothers side
first
According to my grandfather, Crafton, one of his ancestors had came over from our neighbor county,
Bladen County, which is still within North Carolina. Aside from that, as far as we know of, weve been in
Robeson County for quite a while. His parents, Evie and Worth Chavis were both farmers in rural
Fairmont. (Once considered a major tobacco market.) He was a second child in a family of nine.
Eventually, he grew up into a young man who will later pave way for the future. My grandmothers roots
are a little bit moreinteresting, to say the least. As much as we know, her race is that of a Native
American. My biological great-grandmother, Christine Hunt Felintin, had got pregnant from a man
named Earnest Hammonds, a married man. The news of the pregnancy startled and enraged her father,
leading him to kick her out of the house. She was worried that she couldnt take care of the child at the
age of 14. Thus, she had let Quessie Basini and Joseph Basini adopted my grandmother, named Mary.
Eventually in life, they had happened to come across each other. According to my grandfather, they
were introduced to each other by friends. Eventually, they fell in love, and married at the ages of 24 and
18. Later down the path of life, Crafton had got a job as a professor in math related things, while Mary

preferred to remain behind to be the stay-at-home mom. Later, in 1965, they had their first child,
Patrick. Then, in 1967, they had Frankie. Afterwards, they went on a hiatus when it came to having
children until in 1975, my mother, named Tammy, was born.
As for my dads side, it is more difficult to piece together. The furthest my knowledge goes is to my
Great-grandparents, Grady and Helen. (Yet I dont really know what they did.) Eventually, my
grandmother, Sharon, had chanced across a man known as Henry Tomoney, and they fell in love. In
1974, Carlos, my father, was born, the first of four children. However, there was a falling out between
Sharon and Henry, thus Henry left, and his interactions with my father were limited. According to my
mother, my dad should be bi-racial, as she said Henrys mother was white. However, we forgot to ask
him about this in a conversation with him. Sharon had met and fell in love with another man, named
Jerry Faison. Together, they had three sons. Chamaine was born in 1977, Tracy was born in 1979, and
Kevin was born in 1981.
Oddly enough, my mom and dad actually met each other back in the 2
nd
grade. My father had flunked
2
nd
grade due to him never doing his work, so that was enough to put him in the same grade as my
mother. In fact, they were in the same class! Of course, they didnt become girlfriend and boyfriend at
the time. They would not see each other in a different Point Of View until one of my dads friends had
introduced to each other. (Note, they may have been in the same class as 2
nd
grader, but they never
made an interaction with each other.) They didnt get off to a great start, but eventually they fell in love,
and gave birth to me in April 3, 1996. As for my siblings, my sister NyKaylah was born in 1999, Marayah
was born in 2002, Daviayah was born in 2009, and Kolaiah was born in 2013. My father is now a forklift
operator, while my mom works as a nurse, and also offers advice for first time moms.

As for the rest of my family, my Uncle Patrick had three children. Candace is his first child, though she is
not his biological child. She had five children, who are Kyland, Laken, Christian, Halona, and Channing.
Brandon is his second, while McKenna was born more than two decades later through his marriage with
Aunt Karen. Uncle Frankie had two daughters through my former aunt Martin, known as Brittany and
Courtney. Brittany is married to Larry Oxendine, and they have a child named Hayden. Whereas
Courtney is engaged with Dionte Rogers, and has a child named Zamyiah.
As for my fathers side, Uncle Chamaine has two children through aunt Shemeka, Tylese and Quez. Uncle
Tracy has two children through ex-aunt Victoria, Jaidah and Jaylon. Uncle Kevin has 1 child through aunt
Erin, named Nijah.
