Vision

We believe that the future of Wilson County rests upon an informed and educated citizenry that is resilient and adaptable to a
changing world. Our vision requires us to provide appropriate facilities, support services, and learning resources for all students. We
must hire the most qualified teachers, administrators, and support staff members to prepare graduates to enter that citizenry as
leaders and life-long learners. Our students, the living messages of the future, represent our commitment to supporting a high quality
of living in Wilson County.

Mission Statement

The mission of Toisnot Middle School, a positive, safe, professional community-supported school, is to build relationships and
provide a respectful, creative environment by accepting and embracing all people and providing a variety of opportunities for each
child to experience overall success.

Demographics

Toisnot Middle School is a rural school located in the central part of Wilson County. Toisnot has 468 students: 25 % White,
13% Hispanic, .02% Multi-Racial, 58% Black, and .01% Asian. Toisnot has 74% of students who qualify for free/reduced lunch, 13%
who are identified as EC, 13% who are identified as AIG, and .04% who are identified as ELL.

Key Improvement Foci for 2014-2015 School Year
Globally competitive students
Increase reading, math, social studies and science proficiency as evidenced by classroom grades and End-of-Grade test
scores, as well as performance on the NCFE and EXPLORE tests.

21st Century professionals
Continue development of Professional Learning Communities, increase collaboration across curriculum/grade levels and
create an environment that maximizes professional growth. Utilize various forms of data to create educational goals and
implement decisions.

Healthy, responsible students
Increase student participation in extra-curricular clubs and activities. Increase awareness of lifestyle choices that affect a
students mental, physical, and emotional health.

Leadership will guide innovation
Develop and strengthen school-wide initiatives that are aligned to the districts strategic plan and continue to promote
effective avenues for school communication with parents. Continue to improve notification of events and opportunities for
community and parental involvement before, during, and after the traditional school day.

21st Century systems
Continuously improve our 1:1 iPad initiative through fostering leadership and collaboration throughout the school.
Preparing our students to be model digital citizens that are college and career ready.
