Description:
Troubleshooting a Scheduled Task

SITUATION IDENTIFIED IN:
JOB MANAGEMENT

Resolution:
If there is a problem with a job that is called via Windows scheduled task, the following troubleshooting
notes are available:
(1) Confirm the "run as" user correctly identifies the user account that runs the scheduled
task. (For example, domain name\username). Also, note that this user must be logged into
the OS when the scheduled task executes.

(2) If the scheduled task requires administrator permissions to run, then this account must
be a member of the Administrators group.

(3) From the scheduled tasks properties, selecting the security tab displays the
permissions. Verify the user scheduled to run the job has the appropriate permissions
read & execute, read and write. Once finished press Apply and then OK
(4) Review the scheduled tasks properties. For example: Make sure the check box that
turns on the task has a check mark. Check the path to the program and make sure that it is
correct. Also check the program to see if it requires some command-line parameters that are
missing.

(5) Review the available status messages from the status column within the scheduled task
window. Here you will notice each scheduled task has a status and description. Here is an
explanation of the available status(s) and their corresponding descriptions:
Blank - The task is not running, or it ran and was successful.
Running - The task is currently running.
Missed - One or more attempts to run this task was missed.
Could not start - The most recent attempt to start the task did not work.

(6) The last result column displays a completion code. Common codes for scheduled tasks
are:
0x0: The operation completed successfully.
0x1: An incorrect function was called or an unknown function was called.
0xa: The environment is incorrect.
If the result code has the "C0000XXX" format, the task did not complete successfully (the
"C" indicates an error condition).
