BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS OF VOLUNTEERS
DEFINITION - VOLUNTEERS Includes any individual who contributes to the good order and work of the parish of St. John the Baptist Church without pay or compensation.
Includes: liturgical, catechetical, family ministry, ministry to youth and those assisting with the myriad of projects and programs sponsored and directed by the parish.
EXPECTATIONS In responding to a call of service, volunteers are expected to recognize that in their appearance, behavior, use of social media, and conduct reflect not only on themselves but on their family and their parish. They are seen by others in the community as representatives of the parish and ambassadors for Christ in the larger world. They are expected to exemplify the highest standards of Christian values at all times.
RESPONSIBILITIES 1. All volunteers serve the parish under the direction of the Coordinator of Volunteers and the directors of the particular ministry or project in which they are freely offering their assistance, talents and time. 2. All volunteers are required to comply with the guidelines and directive applicable to the particular ministry or project in which they participate. 3. Volunteers are directed and scheduled by the director of the ministry or project. 4. Volunteers may not use our rooms or facilitiesincluding but not limited to the churchunless they have requested to do so and have received a confirmation from the room coordinators and/or pastor. 5. All complaints and/or personal difficulties shall be addressed through the Coordinator of Volunteers. 6. All volunteers must undergo fingerprinting, complete and keep current VIRTUS training. 7. All volunteers must be familiar with and adhere to the VIRTUS CODE OF CONDUCT. A copy of the VIRTUS CODE OF CONDUCT is available on the VIRTUS website. (http://www.virtus.org/virtus/VolunteerConduct.pdf) 8. All volunteers will sign the provided ministry petition acknowledging commitment to policies and procedures. 9. Whenever a volunteer has been absent from volunteering for a month or more, the volunteer will be reinstated after an interview with the Coordinator of Volunteers. The interview may be by phone or in person depending on the length of absence. The purpose of the interview is to assist the volunteer to re-integrate in the ministry or project. Re- integration may include required update or training or possible VIRTUS and finger- printing process. 10. The privilege of participation may be rescinded for violation of policies, procedures or any conduct deemed inappropriate for volunteers as representative of the parish and ambassadors for Christ.
