Stages of group development
Orientation (Forming)
Confrontation (Storming)
Differentiation (Norming)
Collaboration (Performing)
Separation (Adjourning)
Orientation (Forming)
This is characterized by great deal of
uncertainty about the groups purpose.
This stage is complete when members have
begun to think of themselves as part of the
group.
Confrontation (Storming)
This stage is one of Intra group conflict. It is
characterized by conflict, confrontation,
concern and criticism as a members struggles
for individual power and influence.
Differentiation (Norming)
This stage is characterized by a close
relationship among the members.
It is a stage that tasks and responsibilities are
divided among members evaluate each others
performance.
Collaboration (Performing)
This stage is usually characterized by group
maturity, where the feeling of cohesiveness
and commitment to the group.
Separation (Adjourning)
Group decides to disband because the group
has completed its tasks or because members
choose to go their separate ways.
GROUP STRUCTURE
Group Structure
It is the interrelationships between individuals
of a group and act as guidelines to group
behavior that make group functioning orderly
and predictable.
GROUP GOALS
Group Goals
It is the main justification for the group
existence. It can be either formally stated
orally in writing or informally implied in the
actions of group members.
In a democratic, group goals are the
summation of the individuals wishes, interests,
and prejudices operating within the groups
resources constraints.
