The J L Everhart Elementary School desires to cultivate a 21
st century learning environment that is actively engaging and one that will support individualized instruction starting in the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten grades by providing 155 iPads for students to use with educational software already provided by the district and aligned with the state curriculum because there is a need for effective technology resources that can provide one on one instruction and allow students to explore and learn at their own pace. Students will benefit from enhanced mathematical and literacy skills. Teachers will benefit from students increased creativity and improved critical thinking and problem solving skills. Both students and teachers will benefit from the use of iPads because of its portability and simplicity. There is a need for 155 iPads to facilitate instruction in the Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms. The goal of this proposal is to increase student achievement and provide equitable access to technology for students. Teachers will be adequately trained in order to build skills and confidence and learn strategies to integrate the new technology into their curriculum.
Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms will be furnished with enough iPads to accommodate each child. Teachers will be responsible for the care of iPads assigned to their classrooms. Each campus will use their campus funds to maintain the care of each iPad. Longview ISD supports the use of iPads in the classroom. The district has also stated in the technology plan that they will promote student use of current and emerging technologies, aligned with state standards, for developing greater levels of collaboration, inquiry, analysis, and creativity
Maintenance are critical years to build basic skills. In Pre-kindergarten students need a variety of ways to learn letters, letter sounds, and numbers. There is a need to provide individual iPads for each student The iPad will differentiate instruction by creating various paths to learn numbers, letters, letter sounds and eventually beginning reading skills.

When a student's only exposure to a computer is in a lab at the end of the hall, technology can be seen as a fragmented skill unrelated to daily life or a future career. One-to-one computing ensures that all students have the skills and confidence to integrate technology into their future, as well as their present To maximize effectiveness, education in the 21st century has to be active, engaging, and customized for students. The iPad can enhance instruction by guiding learning, offering instant feedback, giving the ability to pause-rewind-replay learning, and by allowing students to learn collaboratively. Students success will be monitored by progress on the PMI, TPRI, and Teachscape. . Other devices may be cheaper, or offer Flash, or allow multi-tasking but these devices get in the way of the journey because they must be learned before the journey can even begin. These type of devices can end up being THE journey because there is a learning curve for using the device. The iPad Students can pick it up and immediately understand how to navigate and use the device with little guidance. The iPad offers portability not available in other devices. It is the go-anywhere, all day learning device that allows students to explore, communicate, and collaborate at their own pace and in their own way. Z deepen their learning experience and create a life-long passion for learning.
