Now is a good time to use data (big, small, open, closed) to help with
big problems:

Order of magnitude more data
Cheap to store and process
Can help create insights and place resources better
Big data
Open data is information that is available for anyone to use, for any
purpose, at no cost.

Good open data:
can be linked to, so that it can be easily shared and talked about
is available in a standard, structured format, so that it can be easily
processed
has guaranteed availability and consistency over time, so that
others can rely on it
is traceable, through any processing, right back to where it
originates, so others can work out whether to trust it

Open data
advanced connectivity of devices, systems and services
covers a variety of protocols, domains and applications
where the big data comes from, in the built environment - physical
kit that can collect and transmit data about itself and its
interactions.
Internet of Things
BMS (Building Management System) covering 40-70% of building
energy consumption
Paper plans
Maybe some BIM (Building Information Management) data
Traditional buildings data
By the way
121 homes
1385 sensors of 81 different types
100,000,000+ datapoints in total
added new data every 5 minutes
Why open data with & from buildings?
1. Using it adds important context e.g. weather
data
2. Publishing it lets others gain new insights
