EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
International Youth Development Summit (IYDS 2013)
Along with the 2015 United Nations Development Agenda of the Philippines at
present has given emphasis for benchmarking with other UN affiliates. To increase the
awareness and volunteerism of the youth in this goal visioning, the National
Association of UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines Inc. (NAUCP Inc.) and the UNESCO
National Commission of the Philippines, in partnership with the City Government of
Taguig, Go Ahon Pilipinas Inc., Smart Communications and the EDSA People Power
Commission organized a three-day summit for this cause. The International Youth
Development Summit(IYDS 2013) held on September 27-29, 2013 at Taguig City
University with the theme: My Philippines Beyond 2015: Vision, Inspiration,
Transformation. 421 participants from 71 institutions with educational bodies at
most graced the Summit.

On its first day, September 27, the highlights of the opening program are as
follows: the welcome remarks from Prof. Serafin Arviola Jr., NAUCP Inc. Chaiman;
solidarity message from Mr. Man Hee Lee, Heavenly Culture Peace and Restoration
President; Keynote Speech from Hon. Virginia A. Miralao, Ph.D., Secretary General,
UNESCO National Commission of the Philippine; awarding of 14 newly accredited
UNESCO Clubs; lastly, closing remarks from Ms. Lara Jean Salaysay, IYD Summit
2013 Youth Convenor.

The plenary sessions for the events are as follows: (1) Anti-Doping In Sports as
a New Area of Competence of UNESCO with Dr. Alejandro Pineda, Head of the Doping
Control Unit, Philippine Sports Commission; (2) A World with Rich Cultural Heritage
with Dr. Dinah Palmera P. Nadera for Dr. Victor Emmanuel Carmelo D. Nadera, Jr.
from UPD Institute of Creative Writing with her discussion on Current Programs on
Development of Culture and Arts in the Philippines; and Dr. Basilio Esteban S.
Villaruz from UPD College of Music on Dances Related to Rice Culture. The three of
them are UNACOM Commissioners. The next plenary session (3) was on A Society with
Empowered Citizens Participating in Nation Building started by Atty. Alexander
Lacson, Kabayanihan Foundation, Founding President; and Mr. Peter Angelo Perfecto,
Makati Business Club Executive Director. The last plenary session (4) on A World with
Freedom of Expression was presented by Ms. Mae Paner (a.ka. Juana Change) from
Artists Revolution. Note that each presentation was followed by an Open Forum

The closing programfor the first day event was initiated by Mayor Maria Laarni
Cayetano of Taguig City as she invited everyone for a Welcome Dinner after her
Convivial Speech. A video presentation of Taguig City and cultural presentations from
participating institutions then followed.


For the 2
nd
day of the summit, September 28, Prof. Serafin Arviola Jr. begun the
days session with Visioning Workshop on My Philippines Beyond 2015. The plenary
sessions then were: (5) A World Free from Discrimination by Hon. Grace Padaca,
Commissioner on Commission on Elections. This was followed by an intermission

number by Puerto Princesa National Science High School. After, TV Personality, Mikael
Daez and Food Entrepreneur, Ms. Stephanie Zubiri discussed their insights as part of
(6) A World with Healthy and Balanced Lifestyle. The last plenary sessions for this day,
(7) A World Free from Hunger was with Ms. Denise Danielle Galvez, Economic Justice
Campaigns Programme Officer of Oxfam Philippines and; (8) A World with Empowered
Youth with USEC Leon Flores III, National Youth Commission Chairman.

The latter activities for this day were a road trip to Market! Market! passing
through Taguig Heritage Sites: Sta. Ana Church, Simboryo Tuktukan, Libingan ng
mga Bayani and American Cemetery. The participants soon returned by their
respective buses by about 5 PM for #Tatak EDSA Night sponsored by the EDSA People
Power Commission. The performers and motivators were June Joson, Josh Mahinay,
Lee Grane, Raji Taada and Beatbox Gor.

The peak of the summit, September 29, marks its last day. The plenary
sessions were: (9) A Gender-Balanced Society facilitated by Ms. May- I Faros, Women
Health Philippines; (10) A Child-friendly World through Mr. Carlo Iigo Montao,
Project Manager, Youth Aid Philippines; (11) A World Driven by Changemakers and
Volunteers with Mr. Jazmie Jamaludin, 1Malaysia Youth Peace Volunteers and with
Mr. MD Roshidul Hasan, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University
and; (12) A World Rooted with Rich Historical Identity narrated by Prof. Michael
Charleston Xiao Chua, De La Salle University Filipino Historian.

By about midday, the overall summit ended with Mr. Man Hee Lees keynote
speech. He had also initiated a World Peace Walk together with the participants. By
closing, Prof, Serafin Arviola, thanked every participant and organizer who made the
event possible. Evaluation forms and actions plan were also collected as the summits
output. Certificates were then distributed. The participants returned to Eurotel while
others directly made their travel back to their localities.
