B Factors 0<b<1 Oil Reservoirs:

According to Robert S. Thompson (1985) and an Oil & Gas drive mechanism reference the following oil &
gas reservoirs typically experience b factors between 0 and 1:
Oil Reservoir Drive Mechanisms:
Solution gas drive
Gas-cap drive
Water drive
Gravity-drainage drive
Combination drive
Gas Reservoir Drive Mechanism
Volumetric reservoir (gas expansion drive)
Water drive
Specific instances from Thomsons book are found on page 5-39:
b=0
Oil reservoirs above the bubble point
Oil reservoirs producing under gravity drainage with no free surface.
Gas reservoirs with constant compressibility (high pressure).
Gas reservoirs in turbulent flow.
b=0.333
Oil reservoirs under solution-gas-drive and laminar flow.

b=0.5
Oil reservoirs under gravity drainage with a free surface (secondary gas cap).
Oil reservoirs in turbulent flow.
Gas reservoirs in laminar flow.

b=.667
Oil reservoirs where P vs N
p
is linear and in laminar flow.

Assumptions Required in Derivation of J.J. Arps Equations:
1) Horizontal, radial flow
2) Homogenous, Isotropic Formation
3) Constant porosity
4) Pressure gradients are small
5) Single Phase flow
6) Constant compressibility
7) Constant wellbore pressure
8) Closed exterior boundary
9) Boundary dominated flow
