seemed to curve his broad, rounded nose. He keeps his mouth closed in a thin,

Detailed outline of the story
Beginning: The opening of my radio drama consists of just sound effects such
as rustling sounds for turbulence and a high-pitched ring for the seatbelt sign
so the audience can identify with the setting and atmosphere the characters
are in. This will allow them to assume that they are on a plane with pretty bad
turbulence and that the characters are feeling uneasy. This then leads to the
dialogue where the drama really begins. Automatically the audience know that
the characters are not in a safe/ calm environment. Jake (the son) starts to
panic when he feels the plane is unbalanced and so do all the other passengers
on board. The air hostess makes an announcement letting everyone know that
everythings fine and that the turbulence is just bad at the moment but
everything will be back to normal in a short while. Nick (the father) reassures
everything will be fine to his children and wife when in actual fact Nick knows
something is not quite right. (Sound effects throughout)
Middle: even though Nicks reaction is automatic panic he knows he needs to
stay together for his family, for all he knows he could be ok! This is when the
narrator describes in detail the surroundings and peoples reactions. (This will
make the audience feel more involved emotionally as they will be able to
visualise the surroundings but at this moment in time they will also feel
suspense as they want to know whats going to happen next) Nick avoids the
seatbelt sign and goes to get a glass of water. As he is walking up the isle, he is
instructed by the airhostess to sit down but in distress nick continues to walk
past. Another airhostess then confronts him and a mini argument occurs as
nick refuses to sit down, as he needs a glass of water for his wife who is feeling
nauseated and he repeats that he is in first class and he should be getting first
class treatment. However the plane tilts 40 degrees to the right and all the
passengers fall including nick. Sheer panic is brought out on the plane where
there is another announcement for everyone to keep calm. Nick goes back to
his seat to find his wife and children safe but with spilt drinks and food all over
the seats. At this point the plane continues to get worse and one passenger
shouts there is smoke coming out of the plane. (Here there is a sound effect of
raised voices and panic) |(|pause). The narrator then comes in again describing
that the plane is on fire and is slowly going down. The audience then hear
sound effects of more panic. The airhostess makes an announcement for
everyone to listen carefully and that there are gas masks that are going to be
dropped from the cabin above and for everyone to place them over their
heads. Nick then shouts for his children to keep calm and let him put the masks
on. His wife Julie then starts to come to a realisation that the plane is going to
crash. There is brief dialogue between the families.
Ending: All the passengers try to keep as calm as possible knowing that the
plane is going to crash. The airhostess is telling everyone to get down in the
recovery position. There is a sound effect of everyone panicking and then a
massive explosion sound. (There is a silent break for around 3-4 seconds) Nick
shouts out for his wife and daughter with no response. Nick is in pain so isnt
able to move! He then hears a cry for help Dad dad!! its son who is trapped.
The plane is about to be set on fire when Nick manages to move and grab his
son, wife and daughter! Then there is a bang and the drama is ended on a cliff-
hanger.

Target audience
My target audience is aimed at people in there mid 30s onwards. I feel that
this would be too distressing for young people and not as thrill seeking so this
is why I have chosen this age group. Not only this but I have found that not
many younger people like radio dramas they are more into visuals and this I
what keeps them interested

Style of radio drama
I have chosen for my radio drama to follow a linear narrative as I feel it would
be better suited for my storyline. I also didnt want the drama to be too
complex as we have only got a time limit of 4 minutes.
An example of a nonlinear narrative is taken the storyline is not in
chronological order for example during the film there are many flash backs to
remind the audience of minor details that are vital in the film.
Whereas a linear story would be from a book called The Great Gatsby by
Everything happens step by step. All meaningful scenes occur in chronological
order and time remains a constant. Mystery and suspense are gradually built
along a linear timescale, right up to a sequence of meaningful events (e.g. the
car accident, Gatsby's death etc.), then the story ends.

Duration
My radio drama is going to be around 3-4 minutes long as I believe it would
benefit my target audience more. For example I dont want the radio drama to
be too short as I am still telling a story and I want it to be interesting and
detailed with sound effects however I dont want the story to go on for the
maximum time (4 minutes) as I am going to leave my story on a cliff hanger
and dont want give too much of the story away so when I do the second
episode I can twist the story and make it really dramatic meeting my audiences
expectations.
