CASE CONFERENCE
GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR LONG CASE PRESENTATION

1. A team shall comprise of 1 or 2 members.

2. A maximum of 20 min is allocated for each case presentation.
3. An additional 10 min is allocated for Q&A. Presenters should accept a minimum of 2 questions from the
floor.
4. Presentation of case shall include:
I. PRESENTATION OF HISTORY
II. SUBJECTIVE SYSTEM REVIEW
III. PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
IV. PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSIS WITH SUBSTANTIATION.
V. DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS
VI. INVESTIGATIONS
VII. FINAL DIAGNOSIS WITH SUBSTANTIATION
VIII. PRINCIPLES OF TREATMENT & MANAGEMENT
5. Presentations can be presented either using PowerPoint presentation or viva voce.
A suggested approach*:
 Begin with a sentence that informs something about the patient and the clinical problem. E.g. Mr. X
is a 50 year old accountant who presents with 2 hour of chest pain that is not typically ischemic.
 Then, describe the details of presenting complaint.
 Once the presenting complaint has been described, anamnesis morbi and relevant anamnesis vitae
(risk factors determination) should be discussed. In patient with chest pain, this includes any
previous cardiac history or investigations and a summary of risk factors for IHD. Present also a list
of the patient’s current medication.
 Physical examination presentation.
 Offer the most likely diagnosis and differentials.
 Suggest a plan of investigation and treatment.

“By the end of this presentation, the audience should know what you think is wrong with the patient
and what you intend to do about it.”

6. Presenters are encouraged to use visual aids, pictures, video, etc to complement the case presentations.
(E.g. Pictures of ECG, X-ray, Blood Analysis, etc.)
