Course Description
Algebra I covers a variety of topics students will need to further their math education. Topics include
foundations of algebra, solving linear equations, solving linear inequalities; linear functions and their
graphs, intro to functions, systems of equations, exponents and exponential equations, polynomials and
polynomial functions, factoring, quadratic functions (vertex form), quadratic functions (standard form),
basic stats, tables and graphs.

Methods of Evaluation and Grading Policy
Grading for Marking Period
Students will earn points for successful completion of:
1. Tests (50% of the marking period grade)
2. Quizzes (20% of the marking period grade)
3. Homework (30% of the marking period grade)

Grading for Semester
Each Semester is then broken down:
1. Marking Period 1 (worth 40% of the semester grade)
2. Marking Period 2 (worth 40% of the semester grade)
3. Semester Exam (worth 20% of the semester grade.
High school students will earn of a credit for each semester where their overall grade is a D- or higher.

Homework Policy
Absent
Students will have the same number of days to make up their missing assignments as they were gone.
At the end of this time, work not turned in will be considered missing and will count as a 0 in the grade
book.

Late
Late work will be dealt with on a teacher to teacher basis and will be covered in the Teachers
Expectations Page that is attached. This is a highly important topic to make sure you understand and
should any questions arise, please contact the teacher for clarification. High school Algebra no late work
will be accepted, unless the child is absent then we will follow the student handbook rules.

Retesting Policy
Tests may be retaken. A request to retake a test or quiz must be made within 1 week of receiving the
test or quiz grade. This is for quizzes and tests only, there will be no make up for the final exam. A t this
point, the teacher will discuss the requirements for retesting and will schedule a time to retake the test.
This is a highly important topic to make sure you understand and should any questions arise, please
contact the teacher for clarification.
