High School: Algebra Reasoning with Equations & Inequalities Solve equations and
inequalities in one variable. 3

Essential Questions

How do you solve multi-step equations in one variable?

Understandings

Students will understand that
equations have one variable and
an equal sign.
Students will understand how to
perform inverse operations.

Students will know what
resources to find to help
them with solving equations.
Students will know the basic
vocabulary behind solving
equations.
Students will be able to use inverse
operations to solve equations by
isolating the variable. Students will
be able to find resources and utilize
them for practice and understanding.

concept

Self Assessments:
Reflection form and video
Other Evidence:
Google doc of resources listed

Learning Plan

Inquiry Hook:
Show students my website resources.

Activity Procedure:
1) Show students my website resources/Symbaloo
2) Give students the assignment and explain expectations. Students work in groups of 2-4 to curate
resources for solving equations, and then create a short video on how to do it.
3) Students get 2 weeks to complete the task, mostly outside of school.
4) Students share videos.

Reflection Methods:
Students complete a reflection form after completing the project.

Materials

Reflection:
Name: Emerson Noble

1) This project was a 7 on challenge because the topic was somewhat difficult, and working in groups
to manage time can be hard. It was hard to find time to all get together.

2) I give it a 9. I enjoyed this small project because it was fun to make a video and add our personalities
to the subject since math is more fact based.

3) I have learned how to search a math concept and determine how helpful it is. I liked to find out all the
information out there, since the internet is more entertainment based for me usually. I really liked
learning how to solve the quadratic formula because it had been something complex, but now seems
more understandable. I feel like since I taught how to do it, I remember it better.

4) I would change how much time was given because although it was enough time, it was hard to
complete with other classes and athletics going on. Perhaps more class time could be given.

5) I would preserve the group size and the idea of creating a fun video.
