The Great Depression Unit

History Textbook

Beck, R., Black, L., Krieger, L., Naylor, P., Shabaka, D. (2009). Modern world history.
United States of America: McDougal Littell, a division of Houghton Muffin Company.

The history book is used for tenth grade history. It gives students a briefed look
into historical events around the world. This history book I will use on my first day when
introducing the Great Depressions. Students will be assigned pages 472-476. The history
book will provide a short introduction of the Great Depression and the New Deal
program. Student will read these pages for homework. Teacher will have students discuss
the reading in their groups.

Google

Google, www.google.com.

Google is a search engine that allows individuals find any information they need. It
also allows individuals to search pictures, articles, movies and maps. Students will go on
Google to search for information of the Great Depression. Teacher will get students in
their groups and search for G.D. information to share with their group and class.

Google Doc., www.google.com.

Google docs. allows an individual to create, share and save different documents
and files. It also allows groups work on a document together at the same time. Teacher
will send students the questions sheets through their Google accounts. Students will
download the question sheets and work with the groups to answer the questions. One a
few assignments students will have to answer questions to guide them and teach them
how to analyze D.G. and N.D.

Apps

GarageBand

GarageBand is an app that allows individuals create music. It had different
instruments that could be used without an individual having to know how to play. It also
gives individuals the option to learn how to play an instrument. This app also Teacher
will have students use GarageBand in their group to create back group music for their
song. Students will also use the song they have created for their mini New Deal movie.

Numbers
Number is an app that allows individuals create different charts. It gives the
option basic, personal finance, personal, business, and education. Students will have use
numbers when they compare the Recession to the Great Depression. Teacher will have
students created a graph comparing both evenest. They will make three graphs. The first

one will be on comparing unemployment. The second one will be comparing he housing
markets. Third one will be on family homeless rate.

iMovie
iMovie allows individuals to create and produce movies. It also has options to
upload pictures, PowerPoint, and music. Students will use iMovie to bring together all the
small projects into a five to ten minute film. As a group they will inform the rest of the
class on their New Deal program.




Pages
Pages allow individuals to create documents, take notes or charts. It also has different
templates individuals can use for projects. Students will use pages in their groups to
brainstorm ideas. This will also allow them to email each other ideas. They can stay in
contact with their group even when they are not in school. Pages will allow students to
keep track of their ideas and class notes.


RQ Codes http://qrcode.kaywa.com.

RQ codes are for cell phones. Individuals can scan this barcode with their cell
phone and it will give more information on a website or product. Teacher has created
three RQ codes. The first one is the G.D. song, second is the poem and my YouTube
video on the G.D. Students have smartphones or with their ipads they can scan the bar
codes to go directly to the source.

Library of Congress http://www.loc.gov/.

Library of Congress has articles, voice recoding, pictures, posters and documents.
It has many historical primary sources. Students will use this website to analyze different
picture and posters of the G.D. and N.D. This will also give students idea for their poster
on their New Deal program. Students will explore this website for pictures and posters.
